Cassidy bypassed the sofa, hurried over to the stroller, and reached in to scoop Maddie into her arms.

"Okay, okay, don't cry, Mommy's here..."

With practiced ease, Cassidy gently patted Maddie's back. In no time at all, the crying ceased, and the baby fell peacefully back to sleep, nestled against her mother's chest.

She held her and comforted her for a moment longer before gently placing Maddie back into the stroller.

Cassidy turned to Parker and lowered her voice. "What are you doing here?"

Parker looked at Maddie, then at Cassidy. He paused before glaring at Silas.

Cassidy realized Parker was about to cause a scene.

She cut him off. "Give me a second."

With that, she walked over to Silas. "Director King, something has come up. Let's reschedule our chat."

Dropping her voice so only he could hear, she added, "You should leave."

Silas offered a polite smile. "Alright."

He still remembered the ordeal of breaking his leg last time. He wasn't about to try reasoning with an irrational brute. Slipping away quickly, he left without a backward glance.
