Cassidy leaned against the headboard, sipping the warm postpartum recovery broth the maid had prepared, listening impassively to Parker's impassioned speech.
"The firm is clean now. You won't have to see anyone who upsets you."
The Quincy Corporation was indeed clean; Cassidy had already moved Lola and Xenia into her own new venture.
Regardless of whose side they used to be on, she would never abandon anyone who had worked for her.
"I swear, I'll come home on time every night to be with you and Maddie. I'm never going out drinking with my friends again."
"I already told my buddies not to bother me unless it's an emergency. If you don't believe me, ask Jasper. Out of all my friends, he's the one you trust the most, right? Ask him if I promised to quit drinking."
That part was actually true.
Parker probably forgot that Cassidy was also in his group chat with his friends. She had seen the long essay he posted there.
However, talk was cheap.
Cassidy had lost her trust in Parker a long time ago.
"Also, Cass," Parker offered his phone to her like he was presenting a prized treasure. "I blocked Seraphina."
He sounded as if he had accomplished something monumental.
Coincidentally enough.
Seraphina had just sent Cassidy a screenshot of a chat earlier that morning.
The image showed Parker's message: 'Cass just had the baby, and seeing you always upsets her. I'm going to block you for now. If you need anything, just call me.'
Seraphina had immediately blocked him back.
She only kept useless connections around for emergencies.
Not to invite unnecessary trouble.
Seraphina had sent the screenshot to Cassidy with a mocking caption: 'Your husband.'
Even Cassidy felt secondhand embarrassment.
