A man groveling on his knees.
That was usually enough to make any naive girl swoon.
Should she sing praises for their epic romance?
Absolutely not.
Seraphina Sinclair knew men all too well.
When a man apologized, it wasn't because he realized he was wrong; it was simply because he was afraid.
The more she thought about it, the more amusing it became.
Seraphina couldn't hold back, throwing her head back and bursting into laughter.
Her unbridled laughter echoed through the quiet conference room, lingering in the air.
At this moment.
She realized that the flawless man she had always held in such high regard was nothing more than a despicable, greedy mortal.
The wedge Seraphina had tried to drive between Nora and Maloney earlier seemed to be becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.
But even so.
Maloney Jameson was still the best man Seraphina had ever met.
Men were all the same.
Cut from the exact same cloth.
Even the very best among them were nothing more than this.
Once you tasted true power, romantic love became incredibly dull.
As she kept laughing.
The sound abruptly died in her throat.
Seraphina clutched her stomach, looking at Maloney with a twisted smile. "Maloney, I'm curious. What exactly are women to you men?"
"An outlet for your emotions, an objectified sensory toy, a puppet to satisfy your need for control, or just a shiny accessory to show off?"
"I'd love to hear your answer."
"Do you look down on me because I'm not gentle and obedient enough? Is that what you like? A sweet, submissive woman?"
"If I let you dictate every aspect of my life from now on, would you spare me a second glance?"
Seraphina amused herself so much with her own words that she started laughing again.
Getting carried away, she actually clapped her hands in delight.
Maloney didn't bother answering her questions.
