Dressed in a black leather trench coat that practically screamed aggressive luxury, she strutted into the massive conference room in sharp stilettos. Her eyes immediately locked onto the man sitting at the head of the table, and her confident stride faltered slightly.

He leveled his dark gaze at her.

Without a flicker of emotion, he broke the stare. Pressing an index finger against a manila folder resting on the polished mahogany, he slid it effortlessly across the long table.

It spun once before skidding to a perfect halt right in front of her.

"The intel you wanted," he stated coldly.

"Maloney, are you really not even going to look at me?"

Maloney didn't flinch. Sinking back into his leather chair, he delivered the kill shot. "The girl you're looking for is dead."

The air in the conference room instantly went dead.

A suffocating silence stretched between them.

The first sound to break it was the soft click of the secretary finally closing the doors.

The noise jolted her. Rolling her stiff shoulders, she slowly straightened up, taking two steps back before snatching the folder off the desk.

She flipped through the pages frantically.

After another agonizing pause, she finally spoke. "You want me to stay the hell away from Nora, don't you?"

"Yes," he replied without a second of hesitation.
