If work was smooth and he was in a good mood, he would be exceptionally patient and tender.

But if he was being rough, it almost certainly meant he was furious.

Panting softly, Nora stroked the back of Maloney's head and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong with you?"

Her tone was gentle. "Did something happen today that upset you?"

"Nora." Maloney's scorching breath fanned across her flushed earlobe. He buried his jaw into the crook of her neck, his Adam's apple brushing her skin. His muffled voice carried a suffocating dominance. "You are not allowed to look at other men."

Nora blinked. "Huh?"

Maloney squeezed her lower back with a threatening grip. "Do you hear me?"

Nora was completely lost. "Who was I looking at?"

She slowly connected the dots. "Are you talking about Sebastian? I wasn't staring at him, he was staring at me."

"Still unacceptable," Maloney stated flatly.

Nora was speechless.

She tried to defend herself. "I can't control where he looks! Besides, the second I got home, I told you everything that happened."

Maloney's voice raised slightly. "So you want to control him?"

Nora flared up. "Are you just picking fights with me on purpose?"

"Nora," Maloney's voice dropped dangerously low. "You've been talking about him nonstop since you walked through the door."

Nora was utterly shocked.

"Are you serious right now?! I have absolutely nothing to do with him, but every time he sees me, he insists on talking and bringing up the past. I thought he was acting suspicious, so I told you the moment I got home. Is that a crime?"

"Serious? You think this is a joke to me?"

"You're being absolutely ridiculous!"

"And you let him look at you."

"I'm done talking to you!"

If Maloney was just in a bad mood, Nora would have humored him and coaxed him a little.

But he was being entirely unreasonable.

Nora suddenly felt like Maloney had been getting angry over nothing a lot lately.

Back when they were dealing with Valery's mess, Nora had merely said a few nice things about Nathan, and Maloney had relentlessly criticized her for it.

Earlier, when Nora had praised Felix, Maloney had argued with her then, too.
