The Divorce That Brought Us Back novel Chapter 187

Nora didn't immediately rush to the facility.

Instead, she commandeered half of Maloney's desk. With her left hand scrolling frantically through her contacts, she wielded a pen in her right, furiously jotting down notes in a fresh notebook.

Maloney sat next to her, stealing sideways glances at her intense focus.

He offered, "The firm has a professional legal team you can use."

"Lawyers have specialties," she replied without breaking her rhythm. "Your corporate lawyers are best for business operations, contract disputes, intellectual property stuff. I need a top-tier criminal defense attorney..."

Mid-sentence, she dialed a number. The moment it connected, she pressed the phone to her ear, her voice instantly dropping an octave into a sickeningly sweet purr. "Hello, senior? It's me, Nora. I have a tiny favor to ask you..."

Maloney's jaw clenched.

Why was she using that voice?!

He glared at her in absolute disbelief.

He peeked at her notebook again.

She was calling in favors to find a prominent criminal lawyer who also had a strong social media presence to handle the inevitable PR fallout.

This wasn't even a difficult task.

He could have secured someone with a single phone call.

"Mhm, sounds perfect. Thank you so much! I'll definitely treat you to dinner when I have time!"

Hanging up, she dove back into her contacts for the next call.

Maloney held his tongue for as long as he could, which wasn't long. "Why does your voice change when you're on the phone?"

"Huh?"

"Why are you trying to sound cute?"

She glanced at him, genuinely confused. "What are you talking about?"
