Nora and Cassidy arrived at the wellness center early to help set up.
Cassidy's pregnancy was just starting to show a tiny bit.
She looked thoroughly exhausted.
Nora was busy placing small, elegant flower baskets on every seat in the audience.
After finishing a row, Nora walked straight over to Cassidy, who was doing the same, and firmly pushed her down into a chair. "Cass, sit down and rest. I've got this."
"I'm fine." Cassidy waved her off dismissively. "Let me tell you, I might be pregnant, but I have zero morning sickness and I'm not tired at all. I'm practically invincible."
"You look half-dead right now."
"It's just work drama."
"What happened?"
"Parker Quincy lost his damn mind. He suddenly showed up at the firm and announced he's actually going to take his job seriously."
The mere mention of the problem opened the floodgates, and Cassidy began venting relentlessly. "You know how it is. He technically holds the title of Division Two Manager, which technically makes him my subordinate."
"When he wasn't showing up, the team was thriving. Now that he's actually in the office, the staff has to juggle doing their actual jobs while constantly babysitting his fragile ego."
"If he just sat there quietly, it would be fine. But no, he wants to act like a visionary boss. He doesn't know a single thing about the business, but he's out there barking orders and changing protocols. The staff is terrified of him. They keep coming to me in tears, begging me to fix it, but I honestly couldn't care less about managing his tantrums."
"Ugh, it's so infuriating!"
Nora listened sympathetically as she continued arranging the flower baskets.
"Is he doing this to challenge your authority?" Nora asked.
"Does he even deserve to?" Cassidy rolled her eyes so hard they nearly stuck. "My mother-in-law tried to ban him from the firm, but he ran crying to his dad and begged his grandfather for 'one last chance to prove himself.' My mother-in-law's hands were tied, so she told me to just toss him a low-stakes project to play with until he inevitably crashes and burns, so we can finally fire him."
Nora frowned. "Didn't you make your boundaries crystal clear to him last time?"
"I did! He's not messing with me directly anymore; he's just destroying my entire department!" Cassidy rubbed her temples, looking even more irritated. "Forget it, I don't want to talk about him anymore. It just spikes my blood pressure."
She looked around the venue. "Where's your husband? Why don't I see him? I thought you two were attached at the hip."
"He had a morning meeting. He's going to come pick me up when he's done."
"He actually prioritized a meeting over you?"
"It's not like I'm doing heavy labor here."
