When Beatrice saw Riley step out of the car completely empty-handed, she frowned sharply. "Didn't I explicitly tell you to bring Lory? Where is she?"

Riley was momentarily confused. "Why would I purposely leave her behind?"

"Because you're getting a divorce and you can't stand to see the Landon family succeed!"

"Mom!" Pierce snapped, his voice dropping into a cold, warning register, clearly showing his intense displeasure.

Annoyed that her son was still defending his soon-to-be ex-wife, Beatrice huffed indignantly. "It's the truth, isn't it?"

Riley met her glare with absolute ice. "You're right. I did it on purpose."

In the past, she had bitten her tongue and endured Beatrice's abuse for Pierce's sake. Now that she was throwing Pierce away, why the hell should she tolerate his mother?

Beatrice's face turned white with shock. "How dare you speak to me like that!"

Riley crossed her arms. "You made an accusation, and I agreed with you. How is that disrespectful?"

Beatrice opened her mouth to scream at her, but Arthur barked sharply, "Enough!"

"Move. We have a flight to catch," Arthur ordered coldly, turning and leading the way into the terminal, leaning heavily on his cane.
