Got a little too close?
A misunderstanding?
Riley let out a dark chuckle. She really never imagined Pierce could be this kind of man—constantly going back on his word, completely lacking the spine to own up to his own actions.
The man standing before her felt entirely like a stranger. He was nothing like the gentle, considerate, perfect gentleman she had fallen in love with.
Thank god she had listened to Quinn and gathered hard evidence before dropping the divorce bomb. Otherwise, with a character as despicable as his, getting a divorce would have been impossible.
Riley pulled out the video of Pierce and Seraphina in bed, along with screenshots of their highly explicit chat logs, and shoved them in front of Arthur and Beatrice. Then, she looked right at Pierce. "What else do you have to say?"
Pierce never expected Riley to have more than one video. "You've been planning this? You've been gathering evidence this whole time?"
"Yes. Ever since I found out you were cheating on me, I've been preparing to divorce you."
Pierce was utterly blindsided. He couldn't believe Riley had truly wanted a divorce all along and had been secretly hoarding evidence against him. And here he was, thinking he had covered his tracks flawlessly, completely oblivious to the fact that she had been collecting his dirty secrets.
It was the crushing realization of believing he was the chess master, only to discover he was just a pawn on someone else's board.
He gave a self-deprecating smirk. "Are you really that desperate to divorce me?"
Riley didn't bother answering with words. Instead, she let her actions do the talking. She pulled the signed divorce agreement from her bag and slapped it onto the coffee table. "I'll walk away with nothing. All I want is Lory. Sign it."
When Beatrice heard the words 'walk away with nothing,' she was genuinely shocked. She had always assumed that a woman from an ordinary background like Riley, who had hard proof of her wealthy husband's infidelity, would demand an exorbitant payout and bleed them dry. She never expected Riley to ask for nothing but that useless little girl.
