The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 78

Chapter 78

EMMA

I pulled off the sunglasses and let the mask drop. No point hiding anymore.

“Well, well. Didn’t think you’d figure it out, Aria. I tilted my head, studying her bloody face with satisfaction. “You’re smarter than you

look.

She didn’t seem surprised. Just exhausted. Blood dripped steadily from her arms, her leg, pooling beneath her on the dirty concrete. Each

breath came shallow and labored. “I suspected when I saw your hands. But what confirmed it? The way you’re so obsessed with Blake.

Only you would go this far.”

Smart and observant. Two qualities I’d always hated about her.

“Why, Emma?” Her voice cracked despite her attempt to stay steady. “What makes you need to hurt me this badly?”

I stayed silent. She couldn’t know. Couldn’t remember. If she ever recalled that night in the fire, if she ever realized she was the one who

saved Blake, not me… everything would fall apart.

My mind drifted back three years. I broke up with Blake, but I regretted it immediately.

I’d planned everything perfectly after that. The party at the estate. The drugs in the water pitcher. I’d drink it myself, then find Blake. We’d end up in bed together, and someone would conveniently discover us. He’d have to take responsibility. Have to marry me.

But Blake got thirsty early. And of course, perfect little Aria was there with a tray, offering him water before I could intercept.

By the time I found them, it was too late. She was in his bed. In his arms. Taking what should have been mine.

Fate playing its sick games again. Always pushing them together no matter what I did.

I couldn’t let it continue. For years I’d worked to keep Blake. Years of being the ideal woman for him. I wasn’t losing to some

housekeeper’s daughter with a pretty face and a sob story.

Aaron would wake up soon. The doctors said his brain activity was increasing. Once he woke up, once he told everyone the truth about

that car accident…

Well, Christine had done us all a favor there. Cutting those brake lines. Making sure Aaron took the fall. I knew the truth, but why would I tell? Let the Redwoods hate Aria. Let everyone blame her family. Made my job easier.

I crouched down, grabbing Aria’s chin roughly. My nails dug into her jaw, breaking skin. “You want to know why? Because you’ve been a thorn in my side since we were children. The housekeeper’s daughter who thought she could compete with me.”

Her eyes flashed with defiance despite the pain. That spark-I wanted to extinguish it completely.

“And now?” I leaned closer, making sure she saw the hatred in my face. “Now you think you can use that illegitimate child to trap Blake?

To take everything that’s mine?”

I released her chin and stood up, wiping my hands on my pants like touching her had contaminated me. ‘I should thank you, really. You made this so easy. Running away, hiding like a coward. Nobody even missed you.”

ARIA

The ropes cut into my wrists. My arms were numb from hours of being tied up. The cuts on my legs had stopped bleeding but still hurt.

My baby. I had to protect my baby.

“Emma, please.” My voice sounded weak. “Whatever you think I did-the baby is innocent.”

She laughed. The sound echoed off the warehouse walls.

“Innocent? That thing is proof you seduced Blake when he was drunk.” She walked around me slowly. “You knew he wasn’t thinking clearly. But you got into his bed anyway.”

“That’s not-

“Shut up!” She kicked my injured leg.

Pain shot through me. I bit my lip, tasting blood. I wouldn’t scream for her.

Chapter 79

“You don’t get to explain. Emma crouched beside me. “Do you know what it’s like? Watching Blake look at you the way he does?”

I said nothing.

“Three years I’ve tried to make him forget you. To make him see me.” Her hand wrapped around my throat. Then you show up pregnant,

and I’m invisible again.”

My vision blurred.

“So yes, I want you gone. And that bastard with you.”

Something snapped inside me.

“My baby is NOT a bastard!”

I slammed my forehead into her face. Her nose crunched. Emma screamed and fell back, blood streaming.

I twisted and bit her hand hard. She yanked it back.

“You crazy bitch!”

I spat out blood. “That’s for my baby.”

Emma grabbed a glass shard from the floor and raised it.

I’ll kill you both!”

Jacob grabbed her arm. ‘Emma, stop! She’s pregnant!”

“Let me go!” She elbowed his face and broke free. They crashed into equipment, fighting over his knife.

Then the world exploded.

The blast wave hit me like a physical force. My ears rang. Fire erupted everywhere-orange flames racing across the floor, up the walls,

consuming everything. The building groaned and shuddered.

“Fuck!” Jacob’s voice cut through the roar. “That psycho planted accelerants everywhere!”

A steel beam crashed down between us. Through the flames and smoke, I caught one last glimpse of Emma and Jacob before another

explosion rocked the warehouse. They disappeared into the inferno.
