The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 49

Chapter 49

OLIVIA

53

God, I’m an idiot. A pregnant, hormonal, rage-filled idiot who’s about to blow up her entire life in a hotel hallway. And you know what? I

don’t give a damn.

Aria and I approached room 809. Each step felt heavier than the last. My palm was sweating against Aria’s hand, but I squeezed tighter

anyway. She was my anchor right now, the only thing keeping me from completely losing it.

“Listen,” I told her, my voice low and sharp. “If things get ugly, we stick together. Got it?”

Aria squeezed back. “Liv, just… try not to do anything you’ll regret later.”

“Oh, I’ll regret plenty.” I let out a bitter laugh. “But not as much as he will.”

The truth was, my hands were shaking. Not from fear-from pure, unfiltered rage. I couldn’t wrap my head around how my husband was

screwing around with his cousin.

We stopped outside 809. The hallway suddenly felt too quiet, too elegant for what was about to go down. I raised my fist and knocked.

Three hard raps.

My heart hammered against my ribs. This was it. No going back.

The door opened, and there she was. Bella. David’s precious cousin.

She stood there in a hotel bathrobe, her hair damp like she’d just stepped out of the shower. Young. Fresh-faced. The kind of innocent

look that made men forget she had a brain behind those wide eyes.

“Olivia?’ Her voice came out small, startled. “What… what are you doing here?”

Not Mrs. Coleman. Not even Liv. Just Olivia, like we were friends.

“What am I doing here?’ I kept my voice level, but inside I was screaming. “That’s rich. Real rich.”

Aria stepped forward, phone already out. “Where’s David Coleman? Tell him his wife wants a word.”

Bella’s face went pale. “I… he’s not-‘

“Don’t.” I held up a hand. ‘Don’t even try it. I know he’s in there.”

Footsteps behind her, and there he was. My husband. The man who saved me from a burning building. The man who promised till death do us part.

The man who was currently half-dressed in a hotel room with his cousin.

“Olivia?” David’s face went from confused to panicked in about two seconds. He grabbed for a shirt on the chair. ‘Jesus, what are you

doing here? You should be home. The baby-

“The baby?” I cut him off, my voice rising. “Now you care about the baby?”

He moved toward me, reaching out. “Sweetheart, this isn’t-

The slap cracked through the hallway before I even realized my hand had moved. His head snapped to the side, a red mark blooming on

his cheek.

“Don’t call me that,” I said, my voice shaking now. “Don’t you dare call me that.”

David touched his face, stunned. Behind him, Bella made a small sound, pulling her robe tighter.

“Liv, please, just listen-”

“Listen to what?” I stepped closer, and he actually backed up. “More lies? More excuses about working late? About how demanding your

job is?”

“It’s not what you think-*

“Then what is it, David?” I spread my arms wide. “Please, enlighten me. What possible explanation could you have for being in a hotel room with your cousin? You said she needed comfort-so you comforted her straight into your bed?”

“Your cousin, Aria added coldly from beside me, phone still recording. “Let’s not forget that part.”

Bella’s face flushed. “This is a misunderstanding-

“Shut up.” I turned on her, and she actually flinched. “I don’t want to hear a word from you.”

“Olivia, please.” David tried again, his voice desperate now. “Can we talk about this in private?”

“Private?” I let out a harsh laugh. “Like the private hotel room you rented? With my money?”

His face went white. “That’s not-

‘I checked the credit card statements, David. My credit card. The one I gave you for business expenses. I pulled out my phone with my free hand, scrolling. “The Langford Hotel. Multiple charges over the past two months. Room service. Champagne.”

“It was for client meetings-

‘Right. Client meetings.” I looked at Bella, who was studying the carpet like it held the secrets of the universe. ‘Is that what you call

yourself now? A client?”

She opened her mouth, then closed it. Smart girl.

You want to know what kills me?” I said, my voice dropping. “I actually worried it was my fault. Thought maybe I was too tired. Too

pregnant. Too boring.”

“Liv, no-

“But it wasn’t me at all, was it?” I met David’s eyes. “You’re just a man who couldn’t keep it in his pants. A man who throws away his

marriage for someone young and available.”

“That’s not fair-

“Fair?” My voice rose again. “You want to talk about fair? I gave you everything, David. A job. A career. A chance to prove yourself at

Redwood Industries.”

His jaw tightened. “I earned that position-”

55

“Did you?” I tilted my head. “Because from where I’m standing, you’re sleeping with your cousin in hotel rooms on my dime. That doesn’t

exactly scream ‘earned it’ to me.”

Aria touched my elbow. “Liv, we should-

“No.” I shook her off. “I’m not done.”

I turned back to Bella, who was still trying to disappear into the wallpaper. “How long?”

She blinked. “What?”

‘How long have you been sleeping with my husband?”

“I… we weren’t…” She looked at David, pleading.

“Don’t look at him,’ I snapped. “Look at me. How long?”

Bella protested, “You’ve got this completely wrong! David’s done so much for me I’d never stab him in the back like that. Why would I

screw over someone who’s had my back?”

“Olivia, please.” David reached for me again. Let me explain-”

“Explain what?” I jerked away. “That you were screwing your cousin while I was carrying your child? What explanation makes that okay?”

‘She’s not- we’re not actually related-

“Oh, so that makes it better?’ I stared at him. ‘She calls you cousin. Your family treats her like family. But because there’s no blood

relation, it’s fine to fuck her?”

Bella made a small, choked sound.

“I trusted you,” I said, and my voice cracked on the words. ‘I loved you. I thought we were building something together.”

“We were-we are-

“We’re done.” The words came out flat, final. “Whatever we had, it’s over.”

David’s face crumpled. “Liv, don’t say that. The baby-

“The baby will be fine. Without you.”

Just then, another voice came from inside the room. “What the hell is going on out here?” A man in a business suit stepped into view, his face going from annoyed to shocked when he saw us. “Mrs. Coleman? What are you doing here?” His eyes went to David’s red cheek. ‘Did

you just hit him? Is there some kind of-
