The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 209

Chapter 209

AURORA

I woke up when the sunshine came through my curtains. I jumped out of bed in my fuzzy purple slippers and ran downstairs to find

Mommy.

Mommy and Godmommy Olivia were huddled on the couch, talking super quiet. I stayed on the stairs, listening.

“Aria, check this out, Godmommy Olivia said, showing Mommy her phone. “Blake’s in the hospital. It’s trending everywhere.”

I didn’t know what ‘trending” meant, but I knew Uncle Blake. He’s super tall with really blue eyes and always brings me the coolest

presents.

Mommy grabbed the phone. Her hands were shaking so bad I thought she might drop it. “Oh my God,” she whispered, her face turning

ghost-white.

I sneaked closer and peeked at the phone. There was a picture of Uncle Blake. He looked all white and had blood on his mouth. He reminded me of the princess in my storybook when she ate the bad apple.

“Is Uncle Blake sick?” I asked.

Mommy jumped and put the phone down. “Aurora! Sweetie, you startled me.”

“The Hamptons estate security is usually bulletproof,” Godmommy Olivia continued. “For reporters to get these shots, things must be serious. The comments section is brutal-people saying ‘Blake might not pull through this time.”

“Not while Aurora’s here,” Mommy whispered, but I heard her anyway.

‘Is Uncle Blake gonna die?” I asked.

“No, honey, Mommy said super quick. “Uncle Blake just needs some special doctor help.”

‘You should probably visit him, Aria, Godmommy Olivia suggested. “The twins might brighten his day.”

Mommy chewed her bottom lip. I’m not sure that’s the best idea.”

I tugged on Mommy’s pajama pants. “Can we pleeeease go see Uncle Blake? He told me last time that seeing Aurora makes him feel way

better!”

Mommy looked worried. “Hospitals aren’t fun places, sweetie.”

“But Uncle Blake needs us!” I stomped my foot. “I can bring Mr. Snuggles so he gets better super fast!”

Mommy got that thinking face with the little wrinkle between her eyebrows.

“Let me check on your brother first,’ she finally said.

We tiptoed to William’s room. When Mommy opened the door, William was still buried under his covers. That was mega weird because

William always gets up super early for his LEGO time.

“Buddy, you feeling okay?” Mommy asked, sitting on his bed.

“Just tired, William mumbled, not looking at Mommy. “Stayed up too late.”

Mommy felt his forehead with her hand. “No fever. Blake’s in the hospital. Want to come with us to visit him?

William squished his face into his pillow. “No way. Don’t wanna go.”

“You sure? We won’t stay long.”

“I said no!” William sounded extra grumpy.

I didn’t get why William didn’t want to see Uncle Blake. Uncle Blake always brought us the best toys.

“Okay, no pressure, Mommy said, kissing William’s head. “Aurora and I will go.”

I zoomed to my room to put on my favorite sparkly pink dress. I grabbed Mr. Snuggles and raced back downstairs.

“Ready, Mommy!” I announced, twirling around.

In the car, Mommy kept drumming her fingers on the steering wheel. She looked super worried.

“Don’t worry, Mommy. Uncle Blake will be A-OK,” I told her, patting her arm like she does to me when I’m scared.

Mommy tried to smile but her eyes were getting watery. “I’m sure he will, pumpkin.”

When we got to the big hospital, there were tons of men in black suits standing in the hallway. They looked super serious like the Secret Service guys on TV.

One of them spotted us and walked over super fast. ‘Ms. Taylor, thank goodness you’re here! Mr. Morgan just regained consciousness.”

I was tugging her hand, wanting to see Uncle Blake right this second.

We went into a fancy private room. Uncle Blake was lying in bed wearing one of those polka-dot hospital gowns. He looked skinny and pale, not strong like normal. But when he saw us, his eyes lit up!

I wiggled out of Mommy’s arms and raced to his bed. ‘Uncle Uncle, you were totally fine last time! Why are you sick again?” My voice got

all wobbly.

Uncle Blake reached out and touched my curly hair. “Hey kiddo, don’t you worry. Uncle’s just getting some boring tests done.”

I shook my head. “Is it ’cause Aurora wasn’t nice enough? Is that why you got sick?”

“No way, no how,” Uncle Blake said right away. “Aurora is the most awesome little angel in the universe. Uncle doesn’t get sick because of

awesome angels.”
