Chapter 197
“Jesus Christ, no,” I snapped. “About who’s trying to kill me. Get our security team on this-find out everything about this brand. Who
sells it, who’s bought it recently. Everything.”
Jack jumped up. “On it, boss.”
While he was gone, I stared at the ceiling, connecting dots. Aria still cared enough to warn me, even after everything. Why? She should
want me dead after what I put her through.
An hour later, Jack burst back in, practically bouncing.
“Boss, we found something. Midnight Essence is super exclusive, only sold to VIPS at certain high-end spas. Last month, someone bought
a ton of their products.”
“Who?” I demanded.
Jack handed me his tablet. “See for yourself.”
The security footage showed a middle-aged woman at a counter, paying for several bottles. I’d know that face anywhere.
“Ella Reynolds,” I whispered, blood turning to ice.
“You know her?” Jack asked.
“Henderson’s mistress from three years ago, I explained, thoughts racing. “Should be rotting in federal prison for that embezzlement
scheme.”
Jack’s eyes widened. “Then how’s she shopping at fancy spas?”
“Exactly. My jaw clenched so tight my teeth might crack. “Someone pulled strings to get her out. Someone who wants me dead.”
“Want me to have her locked up again?” Jack asked. “Send her back to prison?”
I laughed, a harsh sound that hurt my chest. “No. If Henderson wants his girlfriend around so badly, they can enjoy each other. For now.”
‘But sir-
“I need to see what other secrets Henderson’s hiding,” I cut him off. “Time to end this crap once and for all.”
Jack nodded, looking uncertain. After a moment, he added, “About Arya… she must really care about you, sending that warning.”
I scoffed. ‘She’s just being nice. Doesn’t want to owe me for saving her from that debris.”

Chapter 197
Jack opened his mouth to argue, then thought better of it. Should probably let you rest. Doctor’ll have my head otherwise.”

After he left, I closed my eyes, exhaustion crashing over me. Aria was still out there, still thinking about me enough to warn me. It wasn’t
much, but right now, it was all I had.
“Sir, Ms. Grant’s still out there,” Jack reported next morning. “Been there all night with flowers and gifts. Nurses say she hasn’t stopped
crying.
“Don’t care if she cries enough to fill the Hudson,” I said coldly. “Told you I don’t want to see her.
Jack nodded. ‘I’ll handle it.”
I watched him leave, then turned to stare out the window. How had everything gone to hell so fast? One minute I had everything-power, money, respect. Next, I was stuck in a hospital bed, rejected by the only woman I ever loved, with someone trying to put me in the
ground.
Commotion erupted outside. Emma’s voice carried through the door.
“Please! Just five minutes! I need to explain myself!”
The door opened and Jack stepped out, pulling it firmly shut behind him. Through the crack, I caught Emma’s tear-streaked face lighting up with hope when she spotted Jack.
“Did he ask for me?” she asked eagerly, clutching a ridiculous bouquet. She quickly fixed her hair and makeup, getting ready for her grand
entrance.
“No,” Jack replied bluntly. “Mr. Morgan wanted me to make this crystal clear. Your attempted drugging is a criminal offense. You could scream your head off out here all day-he will never see you again.”
Emma’s face crumpled like someone had punched her. The flowers dropped from her hands as she backed away, finally storming down the
hallway.
I closed my eyes again, feeling nothing but emptiness. Emma was the last thing on my mind now. I had a would-be killer to catch, a company to protect, and somehow-God knows how-I needed to find my way back to Aria’s heart before time ran out.
But looking at the mess I’d become-broken, weak, hated-I wondered if it already had.
