The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 196

Chapter 196

BLAKE

:

“What little time?’ Her voice sharpened with alarm. “What does that mean? Are you- She stopped, staring at me with sudden fear.

“Blake, what aren’t you telling me?”

‘Nothing,” I mumbled. Just meant until your wedding.”

She didn’t buy it for a second. I could tell by how her hands balled into fists.

“Blake, please, she begged. “Don’t make this harder than it already is. Let’s not complicate things anymore, okay?”

1 swallowed the golf ball in my throat. “Okay.”

What else could I say? She was right. Her fresh start shouldn’t include the asshole who broke her heart.

“You’re right,” I admitted, feeling hollow inside. “I’m sorry for wasting your youth. For everything.”

I turned my wheelchair aside, making way for her to pass. She froze for a moment, eyes shining with tears she refused to let fall.

My nose burned as I watched her. That wall around her heart had cracked just a tiny bit. But nowhere near enough. Never enough.

Without another word, Aria rushed past me, her fingers visibly shaking. Her perfume lingered for a second before vanishing with her.

My left hand jerked up reflexively, desperate to grab her, stop her from walking away again. But my useless, damaged arm wouldn’t cooperate. I let it drop pathetically, watching her car disappear down the road.

“You good?” Kevin asked, approaching with Jack in tow.

I opened my mouth to answer, but instead of words, blood gushed from my lips. The world flipped sideways as I tumbled from the wheelchair onto the cold pavement.

“Holy shit! Blake!” Kevin’s panicked voice echoed from somewhere far away. “Call 911! NOW!”

Everything went black.

When I came to, I was back in that goddamn hospital room. Monitors beeping. Body feeling like it’d been put through a woodchipper.

‘Welcome back to the land of the living,” Jack said from beside my bed. “You scared the crap out of us.”

“How long?’ My throat felt like sandpaper.

:

“Almost two days, Jack replied, setting down his tablet. “Doc says you tore your internal stitches. They had to cut you open again.”

I closed my eyes. Two more days gone. Two days closer to watching Aria marry someone else.

“Sir,” Jack hesitated, “Ms. Grant’s been camped outside. Hasn’t left since they brought you in.”

My eyes snapped open. “Emma?”

Jack nodded. “Been crying her eyes out, begging to see you. Says she needs to apologize.”

‘I told you I never wanna see her face again, I growled. “Make damn sure she doesn’t get anywhere near this room. Don’t care if she

shows up with the President.”

The change in Jack was instant. His uncertainty vanished, replaced with determination.

“Got it. I’ll personally keep her away.”

“Good.” I tried sitting up, wincing as pain shot through me. “Now tell me about the accident. What happened with that sign?”

Jack frowned. “That advertising board on Morgan Tower-passed safety inspection last month. No clue how it suddenly came loose.”

“You really think it was an accident?” My voice dropped, eyes narrowing.

Jack looked startled. “You think someone…?”

“Three attempts in two weeks isn’t coincidence,” I said flatly. “Someone wants me six feet under.”

Jack swallowed hard. “I’ll double security immediately.”

His phone buzzed. He checked it, frowning deeper.

“Problem?” I asked.

“It’s… weird, Jack said. “Just got a text from Arya-you know, from the branch office?”

My heart jumped into my throat. Aria used that name when working undercover. “What’s it say?”

“Just some fancy essential oil brand name: ‘Midnight Essence. Strange, right? Probably meant for someone else.”

“Give me your phone, I demanded, ignoring the pain as I sat up straighter.

Jack handed it over. I stared at the message, pulse quickening. This wasn’t random. Aria wouldn’t text something meaningless.

“Arya doesn’t make mistakes like this,’ I said, mind racing. ‘She’s trying to tell us something.”

“About… fancy oils?” Jack scratched his head.
