The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 189

Chapter 189

Matthew turned toward the window, his shoulders rigid. “If I say no, will you go back to Blake?”

“Never,” I stated firmly. “I cut those ties three years ago. Nothing could make me go back to him.”

Silence stretched between us. Outside, a hospital announcement echoed through the hallway.

Finally, Matthew turned back to me. “Aria, I accept your proposal. Let’s get married.”

My breath caught. I hadn’t expected him to agree so quickly.

“But I want you to know,” he continued, “I’ll give you all the time and space you need. If feelings develop between us, great. If not, I’ll still

be there for you and the twins.”

Relief washed through me. “Thank you.”

“Once I’m recovered, we’ll announce our engagement,” he said, a small smile forming. “I promise you a proper, grand wedding, Aria. We’ll

plan every detail together.”

I nodded, memories flooding back of how I’d once dreamed of my wedding day as a young girl. White dress, flowers everywhere, family and friends celebrating. My marriage to Blake had started with a cold contract and ended in heartbreak.

“I believe our marriage will bring stability and happiness to you and the children,” Matthew said, squeezing my hand.

Hours later, I stood outside the Redwood Medical Center, taking deep breaths of the crisp autumn air. Dark clouds gathered overhead, promising rain. I’d just finished discussing wedding plans with Matthew and was heading to pick up the twins from their playdate.

‘Aria.’

That voice. I froze, then slowly turned to face Blake. He stood there in an impeccable charcoal suit, hands in his pockets.

“Thought I’d offer you a ride home,’ he said.

“Blake, you don’t need to drive me anywhere,” I replied coldly. “Stop wasting your time on me. I’m never coming back to you.”

His jaw tightened. ‘Matthew’s injured. You’re busy. I just wanted to help where I can…”

I almost laughed. The great Blake Morgan, reduced to offering chauffeur services. But I knew what this was really about – he was grabbing

any excuse to see me.

“Actually, I have something to tell you,” I started, deciding it was time to cut off his hopes completely. “Matthew and I are-

Chapter 189

“Oh my God! Look out! someone screamed.

I looked up. The massive electronic billboard above us had broken loose, falling directly toward me. Time slowed. I couldn’t move fast enough. I closed my eyes, covering my head with my arms, images of Aurora and William flashing through my mind.

A violent push sent me sprawling across the pavement. I heard a sickening crash.

When I looked up, Blake lay motionless under the billboard, blood pooling around his head, his suit covered in dust and debris.

“No, not again!” I screamed, scrambling toward him.

I tried lifting the billboard, but it wouldn’t budge. My fingers trembled as I dialed 911.

“Stay with me,” I pleaded, tears streaming down my face. “It’s okay, I’ll save you this time! I won’t let you die! I promise!”

Blake’s fingers twitched slightly. His eyes struggled to open, trying to focus on me, but then he went completely still.

Emergency responders arrived within minutes, rushing him into surgery. I sat in the waiting room, blood-his blood-still staining my

hands.

“Mr. Morgan’s condition is serious but stable, the doctor announced hours later. “We’ve stopped the internal bleeding and set his spine.”

“His spine?” Elizabeth whispered.

‘Yes. During surgery, he kept calling for someone named Aria,” the doctor continued. “The spinal injury is concerning. Whether he’ll walk normally again depends on his recovery after he wakes up.”

I felt the room spin. Blake had injured his spine. The same injury that had once left me dependent on him, that had made me vulnerable to his manipulation and eventual abandonment.

But Blake would recover fully. He had to. He’d once assembled the world’s top spinal specialists for Emma. The irony wasn’t lost on me the same man who’d discarded me over my spinal injury now faced a similar fate.

I secretly hoped he wouldn’t experience the same rejection and coldness I had.
