Chapter 183
ARIA

I exhaled, relieved the immediate crisis was over. “Let’s get out of here,” I whispered to Rebecca, needing space after the confrontation. We slipped away from the crowd while everyone focused on the commotion.
Rushing through the backstage corridor of Nouvelle Retail Group’s opening ceremony, I pulled Rebecca along with me. The clattering of heels against the floor behind us grew louder. Victoria coming after us.
“Arya, you freak with the mask, I said stop!” Victoria’s shrill voice echoed.
I pretended not to hear and walked faster, but Rebecca suddenly stopped.
“Hey, that’s not how you talk to someone. Show some respect, Rebecca said, standing her ground.
My stomach knotted. Rebecca had no idea who she was dealing with.
Victoria’s lips curled into a sneer. “Respect? You gotta be kidding me! A nobody asking for respect?”
She stepped closer, voice rising. “Who do you think you are? I know exactly who you are, Rebecca-the baby dumped at the orphanage
doorstep!”
Rebecca’s face drained of color. Her body trembling beside me as Victoria’s words hit their target.
“That’s enough.” I stepped in front of Rebecca, facing Victoria directly. “Stop attacking innocent people because you can’t control
yourself.”
“Control myself?” Victoria’s voice cracked with rage. “You’ve been strutting around New York business circles thinking you’re too good for
the Morgan family?”
She took another step forward. “Tonight, everyone’s gonna see who you really are.”
Victoria lunged at me suddenly, drawing attention from everyone nearby. I tried to dodge, but she moved too quick. Her fingers grabbing the edge of my carefully secured gold mask.
“No!” I shouted, but too late.
With one violent tug, my mask tore away. Rebecca managed to steady me but couldn’t stop the mask from falling. It hit the floor with a
sharp crack.
Time seemed to freeze. Every eye locking onto my exposed face-the face I’d hidden for three years. My mixed-heritage features, completely visible to everyone.

I regretted not using special adhesive as backup protection. The identity crisis 1 d feared had arrived early.
Victoria s eyes widened, her mouth hanging open in shock. “You-you’re Aria Taylor? You didn t die!”

Photographers started snapping frantically, flashes popping everywhere. By morning, my face would be splashed across social media and
gossip sites.
Taking a deep breath, I decided to remain composed. I stood tall, addressing the crowd calmly: ‘I am Arya. Folks, don’t buy into this
young lady’s wild imagination.
“Wild imagination? Victoria screamed. “Why aren’t you dead? Weren’t you supposed to drown at Peak Zero three years ago? You re the
home-wrecker who ruined everything for me!”
“Your relationship problems aren’t my fault, I responded coldly. “I have no clue what you’re rambling about.”
Victoria’s eyes turned blood-red as she completely lost it. “You liar! You came back for payback, didn’t you? You want to destroy me!”
I shook my head, refusing to listen to more of her meltdown. “I don’t have time for this drama.” I signaled staff to escort Rebecca away
and turned to leave the stage.
“Aria, go to hell!”
I heard Victoria’s scream before feeling a powerful force slamming into my back. She shoved me toward the edge of the stage steps, and I
felt myself losing balance.
My heart stopped for a moment as Aurora’s smiling face flashed before my eyes. No, I couldn’t die-my children waiting for me at home….
Just as I began to fall, I heard Blake’s voice.
‘Aria-‘
BLAKE
‘Aria-‘
Watching her beginning to fall toward the stage steps, my heart nearly stopped. I pushed Emma aside and staggered toward Aria, barely keeping my balance. Time seemingly slowing down as I reached out, only to realize I was too late.
A familiar figure suddenly appeared in my line of vision. Matthew. He sprang forward, grabbing Aria as they both tumbled down the stairs.
“Oh my God!” Spectators and staff screamed in shock.
Running to the edge, I saw Matthew and Aria lying on the floor below. Matthew’s left arm bent at an unnatural angle, his forehead bleeding profusely from hitting the steps. Aria appearing mostly unharmed, protected in his arms.

Looking back at the stage, I saw Victoria standing frozen, face pale, hand covering her mouth, clearly horrified by what she d done
I jumped down the steps and rushed to Aria’s side. I carefully lifted her from the floor, feeling how light and fragile she was in my arms
“Where does it hurt? My voice shaking. “Aria, tell me if anything hurts?”
She seemed dazed but quickly came to her senses. “I’m okay… Matthew saved me.”
She pulled her hand from mine and insisted on returning to Matthew’s side. Watching her walk away, I felt a sharp pain. Even now, she
choosing someone else over me.
Matthew lay groaning in pain. Aria crouching beside him, her face filled with worry and gratitude.
Matthew, how bad is it?” she asked softly.
“Left hand… probably broken,” he said through gritted teeth.
Aria’s face went pale. I knew what she was thinking-for a surgeon and hospital director, a hand injury could end everything.
“Jeez, Emma’s voice came from behind me, “he might never operate again.” Her tone carrying an unmistakable hint of satisfaction.
Taking a deep breath, I approached Matthew. Normally I’d avoid blood, but right now nothing else mattered.
‘I’ll take you to the hospital,” I said, bending down to lift him.
“Don’t bother…” Matthew tried to refuse.
“Cut it out,’ I interrupted. “This isn’t the time to play tough guy.”
Aria looked at me in surprise. ‘Blake, you don’t have to…”
“Let me do this, I held her gaze. “Please let me do one right thing.”
She paused, then nodded.
I carefully lifted Matthew onto my back, feeling his weight and his blood soaking into my expensive tailored suit. I couldn’t care less.
“I’ll come to the hospital too, Emma approached, reaching for my arm.
“You won’t help. Don’t follow us,” I said coldly.
Emma’s expression froze before she quickly recovered. “Blake, this isn’t on you. Victoria just lost it for a moment.”

))
Her implication was clear-she was suggesting I should take responsibility for my sister’s actions and protect Victoria from consequences
I glanced at her without responding, then turned to Aria. “Let’s go.”
Aria nodded and followed me. As we passed through the stunned crowd, I felt everyone watching us. But all I cared about was the cut on Aria’s face from Victoria’s attack, and the emerald green eyes I hadn’t seen in three years.
I swore Victoria would pay for what she’d done today. And I would face the mistake I made three years ago-I had lost Aria once, and I wouldn’t let her out of my sight again.
The doctor’s preliminary diagnosis echoing in my ears: “Severe hand injury but no fracture. The head wound required over ten stitches. His hand needs at least two months of immobilization. All scheduled surgeries must be canceled or postponed.*
Hearing this news, tears welled in Aria’s eyes. I knew this was just the beginning.
