Chapter 168
Richard paces the room. ‘Emma! Three years, and she hasn’t changed a bit!”
“We raised her for twenty-three years, Elaine says bitterly. “And she doesn’t remember a single thing we ever did for her.”

“We’ll help protect Aurora, Richard promises. “Keep her identity secret.”
I nod, but another worry eats at me. “If Blake discovers the truth and fights for custody, I don’t have solid evidence like David did. No photos proving he cheated. Courts usually favor the parent with more money.”
My phone lights up with a notification. A trending entertainment news alert.
“Ice CEO becomes protective husband, assembles top New York medical team to ensure his beloved can dance again without any
aftereffects!”
I scroll through without reacting. The comments section is filled with women gushing about what a dream husband Blake is.
Three years ago when I was trapped in that freezer, nearly dying, Blake barely sent one doctor to check on me. Emma gets a scratch on her wrist, and he calls in specialists from three hospitals. I glance at my leg where the rebar scar still marks my skin. Now she gets
stabbed, and he mobilizes every doctor in New York. The contrast couldn’t be clearer.
I close Instagram, feeling sick.
The nausea twisted in my gut, keeping me wide awake. To distract myself and comfort Olivia, who was also tossing and turning, I hit the Manhattan streets at midnight, carrying greasy takeout that might bring us both a little comfort.
A block from home, a gold Porsche pulls up beside me. The window rolls down, revealing a guy with an expensive watch and a booze-
flushed face.
“Hey beautiful, why the mask? Playing hard to get tonight?”
I ignore him and walk faster. The Porsche keeps pace.
“Come on, don’t be like that. Just talking here.”
Keep walking. Don’t engage.
“I get it. You’re married, right? Out for some fun? Don’t worry, I won’t tell your husband.”
“Let me drive you. Safer than walking alone.”
The roar of an engine cuts through the night. A black Bentley comes out of nowhere, slamming into the parked Porsche with a massive

crash.
The drunk guy screams from inside his crumpled car, trapped behind the deployed airbag and twisted metal.
I stand frozen, takeout bag dangling from my fingers.
BLAKE
The rich kid pushed his door open, blood trickling from his forehead. He staggered out, one hand clutching his neck.
“Who the fuck hit my car?” he shouted, his voice echoing in the empty street. “You’re dead! Nobody messes with me in New York! You
have any idea who I am?”
I almost laughed. Did he know who I was? I stepped out of my Bentley, straightening my black suit jacket. The moment he saw me, his
face went pale.
“Holy shit, he mumbled, blinking rapidly. “I must be wasted. No way… Blake freaking Morgan?”
I walked toward him slowly, enjoying his growing panic. “What was that about grabbing a woman who was clearly not interested?”
The kid’s eyes darted between me and Aria. His alcohol-addled brain finally made the connection that she might be important to me. His entire demeanor changed in an instant.
“This chick was totally coming onto me!” he blurted out, pointing at Aria. “I mean, check out how she’s dressed, walking alone at night. She’s obviously looking to hook up!”
I saw Aria’s eyes flash with cold fury. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides.
I smiled, but there was no warmth in it. “That right?”
I snapped my fingers, and two of my security team appeared from my car. The kid relaxed, probably thinking I was going to punish Aria. A smug smile spread across his bloody face.
“What’s the call, boss?” one of my men asked.
“Grab him,” I ordered, nodding toward the rich kid,
The security guards seized him, pushing him against the damaged car. His face transformed from smugness to shock in an instant.
“What the hell? Get your hands off me!”
