The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 141

Chapter 141

My jaw dropped. ‘William, honey, Matthew and I are just friends.”

He shook his head with that stubborn look he definitely got from me. “At school, Joey’s mom always says she gives up everything for her

kids. She never does fun stuff. She looks sad all the time.” His little forehead wrinkled. “I don’t want you to be sad because of us.”

My heart just about melted. I knelt down and kissed his forehead, blown away by how emotionally smart this kid was. “William, listen up. You and Aurora aren’t keeping me from anything. You’re my fresh start. Who says a woman needs to be married to be happy? You two are

all the happiness I need.”

His face lit up. “For real?”

“For real. But thanks for worrying about mommy’s feelings.” I smoothed his hair. “Tomorrow, I’m taking you both to meet someone pretty

important to me.”

William nodded seriously, then grabbed his step stool and marched toward the bathroom like a man on a mission. Through the open door, I saw all three kids lined up at the sink, grinning at themselves in the mirror as they copied each other’s toothbrushing moves.

I collapsed onto the sofa, suddenly realizing how much lighter I felt. Today at the dessert shop, I’d eaten chocolate cake-Blake’s favorite -without feeling that old familiar stab in my chest. Just… nothing. Acceptance.

Even after loving someone for ten years, people really can walk away and move on. I wasn’t that girl anymore-the one who would’ve jumped off a cliff for Blake. Meeting him again wouldn’t wreck me like I once thought.

My phone buzzed with a text: [No compensation needed. The number is for Aurora, for when you and others can’t be there for her. She

can call me.]

I frowned. The tone was cold, almost accusatory. Something about it felt weirdly familiar, but I pushed the feeling away.

After saving the number in Aurora’s smartwatch under “The Man in the Garden,” I helped Ivy wrangle the kids into bed.

Olivia came back from the garden, her face like a thundercloud. ‘David called.”

“Ethan’s father? What did he want?”

“He wants to meet. With Ethan. Her voice tightened. “Says a boy needs his father or he’ll get picked on and dissed by other kids.”

“That’s total BS.”

“Right? That deadbeat loser doesn’t deserve to be called Ethan’s father. If my son needs a father figure, I can find him a decent, stand-up guy myself.”

‘Olivia, I cautioned, ‘don’t make snap decisions when you’re pissed off.”

She dropped onto the couch. “You don’t get it. David and that witch Bella once plotted to hurt me while I was pregnant. If I hadn’t hired

so many bodyguards and caught them so fast…” She shuddered. “No way I’m taking Ethan anywhere near him.”

‘I’m with you on being careful,” I said. “Something feels off about this whole thing.”

“How did he even get out early? David doesn’t know anyone with that kind of pull.” Her eyes narrowed. “Unless…”

“Unless what?”

“Alex. He helped David try to tank my company before. What if he’s behind this too?”

The name caught me off guard. I hadn’t heard it in three years, had almost forgotten him completely. “Alex was… weird. I can’t really

explain it.

“He always gave me the creeps,” Olivia muttered.

“Until we know more, any theory is on the table,” I offered.

Olivia sighed. “We should crash. Early start tomorrow with the kids.

We checked on the children one last time, tucking blankets around their tiny bodies. After whispering goodnight, we headed to our rooms.

The next morning, I found myself on the familiar path to the cemetery where my father was buried. I took a deep breath and stepped

forward.
