The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 136

Chapter 136

Aurora giggled as Olivia peppered her face with kisses, but after a minute, Ethan stood up and rescued his little cousin.

“Mom, enough. Let her eat breakfast,” he said firmly, setting Aurora in her booster seat. ‘She needs food, not just hugs.”

“You little spoilsport, Olivia muttered fondly, but she released Aurora with one final kiss on the top of her head.

I watched in amazement as all three children sat quietly eating their breakfast. No tablets, no smartphones, no constant demands for entertainment. Aurora swung her legs happily as she ate her pancakes, William methodically cut his food into perfect bites, and Ethan

kept a watchful eye on both of them.

They weren’t perfect-no children are-but moments like this made my chest ache with pride and love. Even after everything we’d been through, they were resilient, well-adjusted kids.

My phone buzzed with a message from Jessica, my assistant. She’d sent over my work schedule for the upcoming week, and I scrolled through it with growing concern.

“Morgan Global Enterprises keeps expanding, Olivia commented, glancing at my screen. “The business empire Blake’s built these past few years is seriously massive.”

I nodded, feeling a headache forming behind my eyes. “When I returned from Europe, I hoped to avoid dealing with Blake as much as possible. But looking at this schedule…” I gestured to my phone, “that seems pretty darn impossible.”

The mere thought of being in the same room with him again made me feel sick. Three years hadn’t been enough to erase the pain or the anger. Three years hadn’t been enough to forget how much I once loved him, either. And that was the most dangerous part. Hate would be easier to manage in a business meeting than this complicated mess of emotions that still lived inside me.

“If there’s too much Blake, just cancel some of his projects,” William said suddenly, not looking up from his plate.

I nearly choked on my coffee. “What?”

illiam shrugged, his eyes serious as he finally looked at me. “If he’s got too many projects on his plate, we could just sabotage a few of them, couldn’t we?”

“Honey, do you not like Blake?’ I asked carefully, surprised by his suggestion.

“He makes you upset, William replied simply. “Your face gets all weird when people talk about him.”

My son’s perceptiveness stunned me into silence. Children notice everything, especially the stuff we try hardest to hide.

I moved to William’s side and kissed his forehead, touched by his protective instinct. ‘I know you’re super smart, but Blake isn’t someone we can easily avoid,” I explained gently. “His company’s too important.”

William frowned, clearly not satisfied with my answer.

‘But,” I added, “Jessica will be joining us soon after wrapping up our European affairs. I’ll have her handle most meetings with Morgan

Global instead.”

William nodded, seeming satisfied with this compromise. I wondered, not for the first time, how a three-year-old could possess such

emotional intelligence.

“William, Aurora called from her seat, her face smeared with syrup, “what’s a Blake? Is it your new video game?’

William didn’t miss a beat. “Blake is just a not important person,” he said firmly, cutting another piece of pancake.

I opened my mouth to correct him but stopped. Was he wrong? Blake Morgan might be important in the business world, but to us-to our family-maybe William had it right. After all, Blake had made his choice three years ago, and it wasn’t us.

Aurora nodded seriously, apparently filing this information away. “Not ‘portant person,” she repeated, then went back to her pancakes.

“Let’s ditch these work docs, Olivia said, reaching over to take my phone. “It’s Saturday, and these kiddos haven’t really experienced New York yet. Why don’t we take them to Fantasy Land today?”
