The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 120

Chapter 120

AURORA

52

My name is Aurora, and today I’m on a super secret mission! My mommy doesn’t know I snuck out with Ivy (our nanny). Shhhh! And

don’t tell my godmommy Olivia or her son Ethan!

I woke up extra early today and told Ivy I wanted chocolate cake. Not just any cake – the special one from the fancy bakery where people stand in long lines. Ivy said no at first, but I used my super special puppy eyes that always work on Uncle Matthew when he visits. Ivy

finally said yes, but only for a quick trip.”

We walked past the big fountain with the splashy water and the park where big kids play. The bakery had a bell that went ding-dong when we opened the door. It smelled sooooo good inside! Like birthday parties and Christmas all mixed together.

I got a yummy chocolate cake from the bakery! Ivy said we need to go back soon, but I wanted to eat my cake first. The chocolate looked so good with shiny frosting on top! When I tried to take a big bite, I tripped on my shoe. Oopsie!

My cake went SPLAT! But it didn’t hit the ground. It hit someone’s shoes! Really fancy shoes. I fell down too, but my butt didn’t hurt much. My pink dress probably got dirty, and Mommy always says to keep my dresses clean.

I looked up and saw a tall man with angry eyes staring at his shoes. His shoes had my chocolate cake all over them! They were super fancy shoes. Way fancier than Ethan’s shoes. The man had a scary face, like the dragon in my storybook.

“These were custom Italian calfskin,” the man said in a deep voice.

I didn’t know what that meant, but he sounded mad. I felt my tummy get all squirmy. Mommy says when we make mistakes, we have to say sorry. I was about to say the sorry words when something happened.

Before I could say sorry, a pretty lady with silver hair came over. She picked me up super fast. Her hands were warm, not cold like the tall

man’s eyes.

“What an adorable little girl!” the pretty lady said. Her hands were soft and she smelled like flowers. Are you okay, sweetie? That was

quite a tumble.”

The tall man kept looking at me weird. His eyes weren’t angry anymore. They looked… confused? He stared at my face for a really long time. Grown-ups are so strange sometimes. Why do they stare? Do I have chocolate on my face? I touched my cheek to check.

“I’m okay!” I told the nice lady. “I didn’t get hurt. But I got cake on the man’s shoes. I’m sorry, mister.”

The tall man’s face changed. His voice got softer, not scary anymore. “It’s alright. It wasn’t your fault.”

“What’s your name, sweetheart?” the pretty lady asked me.

“My name is Aurora! But everybody calls me Rory,” I said, using my big-girl voice that Mommy taught me. “What’s your name?”

Chapter 120

Im Elizabeth, the pretty lady said. “And this is my son, Blake.”

Blake! That’s a funny name. It sounds like ‘bake, and I love to bake cookies with Mommy! Once we made cookies shaped like stars and

moons, and Mommy let me put the sprinkles on top.

“That’s a very pretty name, Aurora, Blake said. “How did you get such a special name?”

I know this one! Mommy told me lots of times. “Mommy says she named me Aurora because she wants me to be warm like the morning

light. She says I can melt cold things!”

Blake made a funny face when I said that. He looked like he saw a ghost! Grown-ups are so weird. His eyes got all shiny, like Mommy’s

eyes when she watches sad movies.

“You must have a very special mother who loves you very much, Elizabeth said. She was still holding me, and her hug felt nice.
