I couldn’t believe my eyes when the nurse told me Blake had left the hospital. Left? In his condition? In this storm? My heart raced as I grabbed my car keys and rushed out into the pouring rain. There was only one place he would go – Peak Zero.

The windshield wipers worked frantically as I drove up the winding mountain road, my knuckles white from gripping the steering wheel

too hard. The rain was relentless, making it nearly impossible to see more than a few feet ahead. But I had to find him. I had to. This was

my chance. My chance to show him I cared, that I was the one who would always be there for him.

When I finally reached the viewpoint near the cliff edge, my headlights caught a figure lying motionless on the ground. Blake. My blood

turned to ice.

“Blake!” I screamed, abandoning my car and running through the downpour. I knelt beside him, my dress instantly soaked through. “Blake,

I’m here! I found you!”

His eyes fluttered open, unfocused at first, then settling on my face. For a brief, hopeful moment, he reached for my hand and gripped it tightly. Relief flooded through me. He was reaching for me. He needed me.

“It’s okay,” I whispered, squeezing his hand back. “I’ve got you. Everything’s going to be okay now.”

He stared at me, his lips moving slightly. I leaned closer to hear him over the rain.

“You came,” he murmured, his voice weak. “You actually came…”

My heart soared. Yes. Yes, I came. I would always come for him.

“Of course I came,” I said, brushing wet hair from his forehead. “Let me help you. We need to get you to the hospital.”

His grip on my hand tightened, and for a moment, I thought everything would finally be different between us. His eyes held mine, and I saw something there need, vulnerability, maybe even gratitude.

“I knew you would,” he whispered. “I knew you’d find me…”

I smiled through my tears, mixing with the rain on my face. “Always, Blake. I’ll always find you.”

Then his expression softened, became almost tender. My breath caught. This was it. This was the moment I’d been waiting for.

“Aria,” he breathed, his voice filled with such love it made my chest ache. “Aria, I’m so sorry…”

The name hit me like a physical blow. My smile froze.

‘I should have protected you better,” he continued, not hearing me. His eyes were looking at me but seeing someone else. “I should have been there. I should have stopped it all from happening.”

Blake, listen to me- I tried again, my voice rising with desperation.

*Please forgive me,” he said, tears now mixing with the rain on his face. “Please, Aria. I can’t lose you. I can’t live in a world without you.”

“I’m not Aria!” I shouted, grabbing his shoulders. “Blake, look at me! Really look at me! I’m Emma!”

His eyes focused suddenly, clarity returning. He saw me. Really saw me. And the change in his expression destroyed me.

The tenderness vanished, replaced by disgust. By rage. By something worse than hatred.

“You,” he spat, wrenching his hand away from mine. “It’s you.”

“Blake, please-

“Get away from me!” He shoved me hard, and I fell back onto the muddy ground. “Don’t touch me! Don’t ever touch me!”

“I was trying to help you!” I cried, struggling to my feet. “I came all the way out here in this storm because I was worried about you!”

‘I don’t want your help!” he roared, his voice raw. “I don’t want anything from you! You’re not her! You’ll never be her!”

‘I know I’m not her!” I was sobbing now, completely beyond dignity. “But she’s gone, Blake! She’s gone, and I’m here! I’m the one who cares about you! I’m the one who came looking for you!”

Headlights suddenly illuminated us, multiple vehicles approaching. Elizabeth’s convoy. Relief and dread washed over me simultaneously.
