Then came a sharp pain in my wrist as my body jerked to a sudden stop.
I opened my eyes to find Blake’s hand clamped around my wrist, his knuckles white with the strain.
During our fall, Christine had instinctively wrapped herself around my legs, her weight pulling us both down until Blake’s desperate grab
caught me at the last second.
She clung to me now, her terrified face looking up, her survival instincts making her hold on even tighter as we dangled over the edge.
“Please! Blake, pull us up!” Christine screamed, her voice breaking with panic. “I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! Just don’t let her go!”
The woman who had spent years plotting against me now begged for both our lives. Her mascara streaked down her cheeks, her makeup ruined by tears and terror. I almost wanted to laugh at how quickly her hatred had turned to desperate pleading.
I hung suspended between sky and sea, held by Blake’s grip. His left arm pressed against the jagged cliff edge, sharp stones tearing into his flesh. His white shirt turned crimson as blood soaked through. The wound on his hand had reopened. Blood made his grip on me slippery and dangerous.
Each time Christine moved in panic, Blake’s arm scraped further against the rocks, opening new wounds. A single arm supporting two people’s weight-the rock was literally cutting into him. I could see his jaw clenched so tight it might shatter, veins standing out on his
neck from the strain.
‘Don’t let go! Hold on to me!” Blake shouted through clenched teeth. His face twisted with pain as he fought to keep us both from falling.
I stared at him, watching him struggle. Something shifted inside me. Slowly, deliberately, I began to uncurl my fingers from around his
wrist, one by one.
“What are you doing?” Blake’s eyes widened. “Stop it! Grab my arm!”
People were running toward us now. Shouts and commands filled the air as others rushed to help. But my decision was already made. The peace that came with that certainty washed over me. No more fighting. No more pain.
Richard appeared at the cliff edge next to Blake. He grabbed my other arm, his face wet with tears. His normally perfect suit was covered in dirt, his knees bloody from crawling across the rocky ground to reach me.
“Aria, please look at me,” Richard said, his voice shaking.
I turned my eyes to him.

Chapter 107
“You’re our daughter. Elaine and I are your real parents. His grip on my arm tightened. Someone took you from the hospital when you
were a baby.

I said nothing.
Elaine crawled beside him, tears streaming down her face. “I watched you grow up,” she said. “I haven’t had the chance to be a real mother to you yet. Aria, please, don’t die, okay? I’m begging you to have mercy on me, please?”
“Please don’t go, Richard begged. “We just found you.”
“I’m your mother, Elaine sobbed, reaching toward me. “I carried you. I held you when you were born. You’re mine.”
“You have her eyes, Richard said quietly. “Every time I look at you, I see my daughter.”
“We failed to protect you once,” Elaine whispered. “Please don’t make us lose you again.”
“I know you loved Aaron, Richard said. “I’m not asking you to replace him. I’m just asking you to live. To let us know our daughter.”
“Please, sweetheart,” Elaine’s voice cracked. “I can’t lose you twice.”
Their words hit me like waves. My birth parents. After all this time, I finally knew the truth. Tears filled my eyes. Part of me wanted to reach for them, to feel what it was like to be their daughter.
But it was too late for that now.
“I’m sorry,” I said softly, shaking my head. “Let me call you Mom and Dad just once, as our last goodbye. If there’s a next life, I want to be your daughter again. I’m sorry.”
Knowing they were my real parents gave me a sense of completion. But it changed nothing. I was too tired to keep fighting. Too broken to go on. Everything I’d believed about myself, about my life, had been built on lies. Aaron, the man I’d thought was my father, had raised me as his own, never telling me the truth. And now he was gone, leaving me with nothing but questions that would never be answered.
Blake’s eyes darkened with fury and desperation. ‘Why won’t you just fight to live?!” he shouted, his voice breaking.
His voice dropped to a pained whisper. “You’re going to end your life right in front of me? After everything?”
His words hit me like a punch. My baby isn’t going to make it. I can’t watch my child die alone.
Maybe if Dad were alive… if my kids hadn’t inherited this poison in their blood… maybe I’d fight. Maybe I’d disappear, start over.
But what’s the point?
I screwed up. I brought these kids into the world knowing what they’d inherit-bodies that are dying, blood that’s killing them. What kind of mother does that?

Chapter 107
I owe them better. I owe them an apology for every painful breath, every day they suffer because of what I gave them.
Forget the plans. Forget faking my death when the real thing is the only honest choice left.
This way, my baby doesn’t die alone. This way, maybe I finally do something right.
I’m sorry, sweetheart. Mommy messed up.
I met his eyes. “Why should I fight, Blake? Tell me why.”
‘Because people love you! You have a future!” Blood dripped from his arm onto my face.
I shook my head. “I’ve lost too much. Aaron is gone. Everything’s broken. I’m tired.”
“What are you talking about?’ His face twisted in confusion.
“It doesn’t matter. I’ve failed everyone I loved. This is my punishment.”
“Blake,” I said steadily. “Let me go. Be with Emma.”
“Stop talking like this!”
“Why? You already chose her.” I met his eyes. “I don’t want your apologies or guilt anymore. We’re done.”

His face crumpled. “Don’t-”
‘Loving you was the biggest mistake of my life,” I cut him off. “You destroyed me, Blake. And if there’s another life, I pray we never meet. I pray I never know your name or feel anything for you ever again.”
“You don’t mean that-
‘I mean every word.” My voice was ice. “I wish I’d never met you. Remember that. Remember you’re the reason I gave up.”
I began prying at his fingers. “Goodbye, Blake. I hope you get everything you deserve.”
The sun broke through the clouds, warming my face. It felt like Aaron was reaching for me, waiting. With determination, I began to pry at Blake’s fingers, trying to break his grip on my wrist.
“NO!” Blake roared, his eyes bloodshot with fear and rage.
For a moment, memories flashed before me-Blake dancing with someone else under those same stars, his laughter that never belonged to me, the way he looked right through me as if I didn’t exist. Tears slipped down my cheeks as I remembered all the love I gave that was never returned, all the hope that led nowhere.

Chapter 107
With one final twist, I broke free from his grasp.
51
Christine’s scream pierced the air as we plummeted toward the churning sea below. Above me, Richard’s anguished cry of ‘ARIA!” echoed,
and Elaine collapsed in a dead faint.
Blake lunged forward instantly, ready to jump after me, but Jack and several security guards who had just arrived grabbed him, wrestling
him back from the edge.
“Let me GO!” Blake howled, fighting against their restraint with savage strength. He knocked two men to the ground, his eyes fixed on
where I had disappeared.
As they struggled to contain him, Blake suddenly went rigid. He clutched at his chest, coughed violently, and blood spilled from his mouth before he crumpled to the ground.
The sea swallowed me whole. I closed my eyes.
