The Bride He Took for Granted

Chapter 80

Harold gave a low hum in response, his brows drawn tight.

He raised his free hand to rub his temple, but his eyes remained closed.

Elise felt as though all the strength had drained from her shoulders.

She glanced to the side, but Daniel still had not returned.

She decided to get Harold into the elevator first and take him back to his apartment while waiting for Daniel.

She could barely hold on any longer.

As they moved toward the elevator, Harold struggled to lift his feet.

Elise freed one hand and grabbed the fabric of his pants to help steady him.

Bending forward under his weight nearly made her collapse.

Harold was lean, but his height and build were still difficult for her to handle.

Elise practically dragged him into the elevator.

Sweat covered her back and forehead, and she was already breathing heavily.

When they reached his apartment door, Harold kept his head lowered, so the facial recognition wouldn’t work.

Elise had fed Blitz before and knew that his door code was the

same as his phone passcode: 5555.

With great effort, she lifted one hand.

Then she suddenly remembered what Harold had said.

It has dog facial recognition.

Elise couldn’t help laughing.

She barely had any strength left, and laughing only made things harder.

As she dragged Harold inside, she staggered with every step.

Finally, they made it through the door and into the entryway.

Blitz spotted her from the balcony, trotted over, and jumped up with both front paws.

The impact threw Elise off balance.

With a heavy thud, his forehead hit the entryway cabinet.

“Ugh…”

Harold let out a muffled groan.

The impact cleared his head a little.

Covering his forehead, he slowly opened his eyes.

Seeing the red mark on his fair forehead, Elise hurriedly apologized.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Nash. Blitz bumped into me…”

Harold was in too much pain to respond.

He let Elise support him and lower him onto the couch.

He tried to keep his eyes open, but he couldn’t make out the woman standing in front of him.

Yet her fresh, comforting scent made him desperately want to see her clearly.

His arm suddenly tensed, and he easily pulled her back toward him.

Elige gasped.

In a panic, she braced both hands against Harold’s chest.

That kept her from falling completely against him.

At such close range, Elise could see her own panic reflected in Harold’s eyes.

She could also smell the clean scent of his breath mixed with a

faint trace of alcohol.

Her heart raced again, and the warmth in her cheeks spread all the way to her ears.

She pressed against Harold’s chest to push herself up, but he pulled her back again.

Harold tried hard to make out the woman in front of him.

A faint smile appeared in his eyes.

“Are you… a princess?”

A princess?

Before Elise could think about it, she shook free of Harold’s hand and quickly stood up.

Harold seemed harmless now, but he was still a drunk man.

Keeping some distance was the safer choice.

Harold’s front door was still wide open.

Elise stayed beside the couch, remaining cautious.

If Harold did anything inappropriate, she could leave immediately.

“Don’t… go…”

The corners of Harold’s lips lifted, revealing a warmth she rarely saw from him.

Elise could tell he was truly drunk.

So drunk that he no longer seemed like the Harold she knew.

She glanced toward the door, but Daniel still had not returned.

“It hurts…”

Harold murmured weakly.

He lifted a hand and rubbed his temple, his brows pulled tightly together as if the pain was unbearable.

When Elise saw the red mark on his forehead from the collision, guigt washed over her.

Remembering she had yogurt in the refrigerator that might

help settle his stomach, she asked Blitz to stay with Harold for a

moment.

Harold’s hazy gaze slowly wandered around the room.

Then he called out loudly, “Princess? Princess, where are you?”

“I’m here…”

Elise walked back in holding the yogurt.

Only then did she realize why she had answered such a ridiculous name.

“Drink this. You’ll feel better.”

She peeled back the yogurt lid and held it to Harold’s lips.

Drunk Harold was surprisingly obedient.

He lowered his head and finished it all.

Then he licked the yogurt from around his mouth like a child with a little yogurt mustache.

Elise couldn’t help laughing at the sight.
