The Bride He Took for Granted
Chapter 64
Chloe wasted no time buttering Harold up.
“Mr. Nash, I still can’t believe you live right next door to Elise.” Chloe smiled brightly. “You two are neighbors now, so don’t be a stranger. If you ever get hungry, just knock. Elise’s cooking is really good. She-”
“Chloe, weren’t you just saying you were starving?”
“Oh. Right.”
Chloe grabbed her fork and tried some of the spicy beef sauce. Her eyes lit up immediately.
“Mr. Nash, you have to try Jane’s spicy beef sauce. It’s Elise’s favorite. It’s amazing.”
She looked at Harold again. “And since you live right next door, you can look out for Elise a little, right?”
“Chloe, have some soup.” Elise pushed a bowl toward her. “Careful. It’s hot.”
Elise just wanted to disappear.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Harold watching her. 1/7

Harold almost smiled, but quickly composed himself. There was still a hint of amusement in his eyes..
Jane ladled a bowl of soup for him.
Harold stood and accepted it with both hands. “Please don’t be so formal. Just call me Harold.”
If he had been one of the boys back home, Jane wouldn’t have thought twice about calling him by his first name.
But Harold was a distant, unreadable man she had only met that day-and Elise’s powerful boss.
Jane couldn’t quite bring herself to treat him with the easy familiarity she would have shown someone younger back home.
She smiled awkwardly. “I think I’ll stick with Mr. Nash.”
It was only a form of address. Harold didn’t care either way.
He nodded.
Then he looked down at the bowl in front of him.
There was cilantro in it. A lot of it.
Harold frowned.

He tried pushing it aside with his spoon, but no matter where he scooped, a few green leaves always seemed to follow.
Chloe was far too busy eating to notice.
Elise, however, caught every little movement.
She quietly watched him, wondering if he hated cilantro.
Harold hesitated for a moment, then finally took a spoonful.
He swallowed with the grim determination of someone taking
medicine.
Without realizing it, Elise held her breath as she waited for his
reaction.
Harold’s eyes widened slightly.
He had always hated cilantro.
To him, it usually tasted sharp, soapy, and unpleasant.
But somehow, in Elise’s soup, that flavor was gone.
Maybe it was the vinegar. Maybe it was the pepper.
Whatever it was, the cilantro actually tasted fresh. 3/7

Elise noticed and finally relaxed.
Harold took another spoonful
Then another.
Before long, the bowl was empty.
Elise looked at him. “Would you like some more?”
Chloe suddenly choked.
Everyone turned to look at her.
Chloe’s face went red.
There was no way she was admitting where her mind had just
gone.
She took the tissue Elise handed her and covered her mouth,
coughing until tears gathered in her eyes.
“Sorry. I… I was eating too fast.”
The truth was, Chloe’s mind had gone straight to sex.
The moment Elise asked Harold if he wanted more, Chloe’s mind had gone somewhere it absolutely shouldn’t have. 4/7

And once the thought was there, she couldn’t get rid of it.
Elise handed her a bottle of water, then passed one to Harold as well.
Harold reached for it, and for a brief second, his hand was right beside Elise’s.
Chloe stared.
A thought suddenly popped into her head.
What if those two hands were holding each other instead?
Her imagination immediately ran wild.
Harold was taller than Landon. Better-looking. More successful.
Richer.
And while both men came from powerful families, the Nash family was on another level entirely.
If Elise ever got together with Harold, she wouldn’t even have to do anything to get back at Landon.
All she had to do was show up with Harold beside her.
Just imagining Landon’s face made Chloe want to laugh.
