The Bride He Took For Granted novel Chapter 35

Chapter 35

Whenever Landon got drunk, he usually had his driver take him home to sleep it off.

But tonight, he had come looking for Elise instead.

Every nerve in her body went on alert.

“We’ll talk tomorrow,” she said carefully. “Stay here. I’ll go get you something to sober you up.”

She turned sideways, trying to slip past him and get out the

door.

As she moved past him, Landon caught the familiar scent of her

hair.

He grabbed her shoulder, dragged her back, and pinned her against the entryway cabinet.

“God, you smell good.”

He lowered his head and tried to kiss her.

Elise went pale and jerked her face away. His lips grazed her

cheek instead.

she shoved hard against his shoulder.

He stumbled back half a step, then pressed against her even harder. She tried to knee him, but he pinned her legs in place with his own.

“Let me go, Landon.” Her voice shook. “Don’t make me hate

you.”

Landon laughed under his breath and forced both her wrists

above her head.

“We’re practically married. What’s wrong with me kissing you?”

He leaned closer, his breath hot with alcohol.

“Tomorrow, I’m taking you to get our marriage license. Let’s see you keep fighting me after that.”

At the mention of a marriage license, Elise’s mind went blank.

Her parents would undoubtedly side with Landon. Once they were legally married, getting away from him would become even

harder.

Landon caught her chin with his free hand and tried to kiss her again.

“You said you’d never force me…”

Elise twisted her face away and clamped her lips shut.

“I’ve waited four years,” Landon snapped. “That’s long enough. Don’t push me.”

“Let me go! Help-”

She thrashed against him, her head and shoulders striking the cabinet again and again.

Just then, Harold stepped out of the elevator and heard Elise cry out, followed by the muffled sounds of a struggle.

He quickened his pace.

The moment he reached her door, he saw Landon pinning her against the cabinet while she fought desperately to get away.

Harold’s expression turned cold.

He crossed the distance in seconds, grabbed Landon by the collar, and drove a fist into his temple.

Before Landon could recover, Harold kicked him hard in the stomach, sending him stumbling into the hallway.

Harold followed him outside and slammed the apartment door shut behind them.

Elise was still shaking, her heart pounding so hard it hurt.

Then a heavy thud came from the hallway.

Only then did she fully register that the man who had stormed in with that terrifying look on his face was Harold.

She hurriedly straightened her clothes and opened the door.

Harold stood over Landon, one polished dress shoe planted firmly on his chest.

His face was hard, his eyes cold as he shifted more of his weight

onto his foot.

Landon lay unconscious on the floor, his eyes closed and his body completely still.

Elise went pale.

She dropped to one knee and grabbed Harold’s ankle with both hands.

“Don’t…” Her lips trembled. “Don’t make this worse.”

Harold didn’t move. His gaze remained fixed on Landon.

Panic rose in Elise’s chest.

“Mr. Nash, I’m okay. I really am.” Her grip tightened. “Please don’t press any harder.

Harold looked down at her trembling hands before finally lifting his foot.

“What do you want to do with him?” he asked.

Elise forced herself to breathe.

“Let me think. Just… give me a second.”

Her hands still shaking, she crouched beside Landon and checked him over.

There was no blood or obvious injury, and his breathing was steady.

He had probably hit his head when Harold kicked him into the hallway. Between the impact and the alcohol, he had passed out.

But if Victor and Ruth found out what had happened, Harold would be dragged into the mess. It could even involve his father

Worse, Leonard and Sharon might use the incident to pressure Victor into pulling strings and having her marriage to Landon registered without her consent.

Blige couldn’t let her thoughts go any further.

She swallowed and looked up at Harold.

“I’ll have someone come get him.” Her voice was still unsteady. “Mr. Nash, please just act like none of this happened. This has nothing to do with you.”

Harold’s expression darkened.

“I’m the one who hit him. I’ll deal with the consequences.”

His voice sharpened. “You didn’t do anything wrong. What are you so afraid of?”

Harold had started his first business in high school. By now, very little got past him.

He saw immediately that Elise was trying to keep him out of the

mess.

Harold could take care of himself. He might even be able to turn

the situation in her favor.

But Elise seemed determined to carry the whole burden alone.

She looked at him in surprise.
