The Bride He Took For Granted novel Chapter 13

Chapter 13

Elise had once met the elderly Mrs. Nash at a banquet.

The old lady had personally used a handkerchief to wipe the red wine off her dress.

Even now, thinking about it still warmed her heart.

Elise’s smile softened instantly. Her eyes brightened as she walked unconsciously toward the car window.

“Mrs. Nash? I didn’t expect to run into you. What a coincidence.”

The old lady looked at her, smiling so widely her mouth almost reached her ears.

When she burned incense today, she had even told the Buddha that Harold should drive her around the White family residence area twice. If she happened to meet the White girl, that would prove they were destined. Then she would…

“Oh, dear, you’re not driving. Where are you headed? Get in we’ll take you.”

The old lady blinked.

“My phone’s out of battery. Use Harold’s.”

As she spoke, she lightly kicked the seat in front of her.

Harold understood immediately. A trace of helplessness flashed in his eyes as he prepared to hand over his phone.

Then he heard the old lady lower her voice and command, “Get out. Hand it to her yourself.”

Elise saw Harold unbuckle his seatbelt, walk around the front of the car, and stop in front of her.

His thin lips were pressed into a cool, restrained line.

A gray-brown shirt was tucked into black trousers, the waist fitted and sharp, giving him a lean, noble presence.

Elise unconsciously straightened her back.

But he was too tall. At least 190 cm. Even she, at 170 cm, had to tilt her head slightly to meet his gaze.

Harold held the edge of the phone between two fingers,

“Password is 5555.”

If she hadn’t been looking at him, she might have thought

he was about to cry.

Elise blinked in mild surprise and took the phone ast though receiving an imperial decree.

She turned around and dialed Chloe.

“It’s me, Chloe…..”

She had barely finished when Chloe shouted on the other

end.

“Damn it, I forgot to charge my phone!”

The call disconnected.

Elise slowly lowered the heavy phone and tried dialing her own number.

Just as she pressed 159, the phone in her hand suddenly vibrated.

Startled, she nearly dropped it.

The tall man standing nearby turned his gaze toward her instantly.

His dark eyes made Elise inexplicably nervous. She pointed at the screen.

“It’s mine! My number! It’s calling me!”

Her tongue tangled slightly, the words coming out clumsily.

Realizing she sounded a bit childish, she immediately shut her mouth, turned away, and pretended to be calm. Her ears, however, betrayed her by turning red.

Harold withdrew his gaze casually. But the image lingered in his mind, and a faint curve appeared at the corner of his lips.

So the composed, dignified, unshakable woman… had moments like this too.

Elise told Chloe she would stay at the Maplewood Estates complex and asked her to bring her bag when picking her

After he finished the call, Elise thanked him again with a polite nod.

The old lady leaning by the window said, “What’s there to thank? We’re friends now. Next time, you should all have a meal together.”

Elise replied calmly, “Of course. When I have time, I’ll treat you and Mr. Nash to a meal.”

Harold assumed it was just polite talk. But the old lady took it seriously.

“Words must be kept,” she reminded.

Elise smiled and watched them leave.

As the window rose, the old lady took Harold’s phone and saved Elise’s number.

“I’ll save Miss White’s number for you.”

Harold glanced at her through the rearview mirror, his tone flat.

“No need. It’s useless.”
