The Bride He Took For Granted novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Sharon ordered someone to throw Chloe out.

Chloe clutched her bag tightly, panicking as she spun around like a headless fly.

Calling the police was useless. How was she supposed to find out what had happened to Elise?

Every time Elise was injured, it was Leonard’s doctor cousin who treated her wounds and applied medicine.

In a haze of confusion and pain, Elise seemed to hear her aunt scolding Sharon.

“If you don’t love her, why did you give birth to her in the first place? You should’ve just killed her at birth… Is Leonard even human? How could he hit her so hard? She’s called him Dad for fourteen years…

“Stop talking. Elise… owes him!”

Elise’s low fever caused by her injuries did not break until the third day.

Leonard and Sharon did not care whether she lived or

died.

The moment she regained consciousness, she was ordered to change clothes and go to the Carter family to apologize.

“I gave you the best education, let you enter high society events. It was not for you to come here and talk to me about dignity.”

“Whether you kneel or crawl, you are getting this engagement back on track.”

“Otherwise, you, your adoptive mother Jane in Seattle, and your brother, none of you will have an easy life.”

Leonard finished speaking with a face dark with anger, only to see an unusual trace of rage in Elise’s clear eyes.

Her adoptive mother, Jane, was the person she cared

about most.

When she was a child, Jane would dig lotus roots from the pond after work, wash them clean, and sell them at

the town market.

Elise was deeply grateful she had grown up with Jane.

So much so that even after returning to her cold biological parents, she could still remember a pair of hands gently brushing her forehead…

Elise could not hold back anymore and said,

“If you insist on being cruel, take my life if you want. Why are you disturbing my mother’s life? What right do you have?”

“In my eyes, you’re nothing but a weak man who sold his daughter for status.”

“Impudent!”

Leonard’s chest rose and fell violently at the words of the usually obedient Elise.

He raised his hand and swung it toward her face.

But Sharon, standing beside Elise, suddenly stepped forward and blocked her.

Leonard reacted in time and changed the direction of his 378

strike.

short hair tucked behind her ear.

The rage froze for a moment.

Elise looked at her parents in shock.

So the cost of not being hit… was simply Sharon stepping in at the right time.

But over all these years, Sharon had never once protected

her.

And this time too, there was probably a price attached.

As expected.

Sharon said to Leonard,

“If you ruin her face, how is she supposed to face the Carters?”

Elise turned her face away, a faint mocking curve on her lips.

Sharon turned back to her, her tone as cold as always.

“You and Landon, the Whites and the Carters, there is no way to cut this off completely.”

“The wedding house, the groom’s wedding endowment from the Carter family, do you even have the ability to settle that clearly?”

Elise had already thought about these questions.

She had disrupted the wedding for two reasons: to end the engagement, and to clear the filth that had been thrown onto her name.

As for whether anyone would still marry her, that question itself was wrong.

She did not have to get married.

One life fulfilled alone was better than two people settling.

Elise took a breath and, knowing they would not return the groom’s wedding endowment, said clearly,

“The house and the wedding endowment, I will handle them myself. I will bear it all. Landon and I are bound to

៥០ separate. I will live outside from now on. There is no need

Once she resolved the house and the wedding

endowment, she would no longer be the White family’s daughter.

Elise walked out of the villa alone.

She was wearing clothes made by Jane, conservative in style, enough to fully cover her wounds.

She did not take any of the clothes, bags, or cars Sharon had given her.

She originally planned to borrow a phone from a passerby

to contact Chloe, but her luck was not good.

After walking two kilometers under the sun, no one passed by.

Sweat formed on her body, pouring salt into her wounds.

The burning pain deep in her flesh forced her to stop and sit on the curb.

With no support behind her, she could only sit upright with her back strained.
