In the afternoon, after finishing her work, Wynn wanted to ask Trevor out for dinner. She called him several times, but none of the calls went through.
Finally, she called his secretary, Jacob.
Once the call connected, she asked, "I can't get through to Trevor's phone. Is he still busy?"
Jacob sounded a bit surprised. "Boss flew overseas this afternoon for a business trip. You didn't know?"
Wynn froze. She really didn't know. Trevor hadn't told her.
"Was the business trip a last-minute decision?"
"Yes, it was."
Even if it had been a last-minute decision, he surely could have found time to call or send her a message. But he didn't say anything at all.
Realizing this, her expression darkened slightly.
After a moment's silence, she picked up her bag and left the home office while dialing Jordyn's number.
Jordyn was lying in the living room playing with a puzzle. Seeing the call, she quickly answered. "Wynn?"
"Mhm." Wynn's voice was gentle. "Jo, are you home already?"
"Yeah, I'm home."
Wynn smiled and asked, "Were you happy having your dad go to your parent-teacher meeting today?"
Hearing this, Jordyn responded cheerfully, "Wynn, you got it wrong! The one who came to school today for the parent-teacher meeting was Mom, not Dad!"
At the mention of Celeste, Wynn's smile and tone both calmed slightly. "Is that so..."
After a short pause, she added, "I called your dad around noon and asked if the meeting was done. He said it was, so I thought he was the one who went to your school."
Because Celeste had gone instead, Jordyn had been in a very good mood all day.
Now, hearing Wynn bring it up, she excitedly said, "Nope! But after the meeting, Dad came to have lunch with me and Mom!"
Wynn said nothing more.
In truth, she knew that for the past two years, no matter whether big or small matters, Trevor and Celeste had rarely communicated directly.
Most of the time, they didn't even speak on the phone, just sent text messages.
Which meant, even if there were issues related to the divorce to clarify, Trevor could have easily handled them via text.
Or even more directly, he could've let the lawyers handle everything.
In fact, if he wanted to do anything, he had no need to consult Celeste at all.
In other words, there was no reason for them to meet.
But they did meet today.
And from what Jordyn described, it was Trevor who made a point to go see Celeste...
