TEMPORARY MATES PERMANENT CRAVINGS novel Chapter 335

Three hundred and thirty-five

Isabella POV

The muffled drums from the ballroom followed us through the walls, mingling with voices and laughter. Wesley led me through a side door into a hallway that connected to the backyard. It split in two directions, forming a V, with one of the outer doors leading outside. Only the maids had reason to use it, making it quieter than the main hall.

I sighed when Wesley pulled me closer and laced his fingers through mine.

“Your dress was designed specifically to make it impossible for me to look anywhere else.”

“Please don’t,” I said. “I need to find Grandma Cassidy.”

He dipped his head and kissed my neck.

“She already knows,” he murmured, his breath warm against my skin.

“I know, but I need to talk to her myself.”

He drew me closer.

“You’re shaking,” he said with a chuckle. “You don’t need to confess anything to her. She already knows we’re not exactly spending our nights discussing the weather.”

Wesley was taking everything far too lightly. I couldn’t blame him. To him, the biggest problem was telling his sister we were together. To me, this felt like walking into a lion’s den.

“Why don’t you go find Anita while I talk to Grandma Cassidy? She might take it better if you tell her yourself.”

He pulled out his phone and called Anita, but her phone was switched off.

“We’ll do this together,” he said. “Let’s go to Grandma Cassidy. And stop looking like you’re about to walk into a trial. If Anita is angry, she’ll be angry with me. You didn’t do anything to her. She’s my sister. I know how she is, and she’ll get over it.”

I leaned into him, and he kissed me. For a moment, I let myself relax against him.

Footsteps echoed down the hallway. I pulled away, making Wesley groan. The footsteps faded toward the staircase. We stood beneath it, where the space was large enough to keep us out of the way.

“You just want to get this over with, don’t you?” he asked.

I nodded and wiped the lipstick from his lips with my thumb.

“Fine. Let’s go to Grandma Cassidy.”

We headed toward the rear of the house. The smell of meat cooking on the grills drifted through the open doors, followed by the voices of cooks and staff as they prepared the food and arranged portions on trays.

Grandma Cassidy stood among the servers, overseeing them as they arranged roasted venison on serving platters. Several servers hurried around her, carrying trays in and out.

“Grandma,” Wesley called.

She looked up.

I said nothing. She studied me.

“Is Wesley forcing you to do this? Because if there’s any imbalance between you two, I won’t support it.

I shook my head.

“No… he… he isn’t forcing me.”

She sighed.

“Good. I know it’s too early to ask if you love him, but are your feelings strong enough to handle what comes after tonight? Loving an Alpha isn’t exactly easy. It comes with a lot of hurdles.”

“I have something to say.”

My abruptness must have startled her, but my nervousness was turning into panic, and I needed to get this off my

chest.

“There is more to this.”
