TEMPORARY MATES PERMANENT CRAVINGS novel Chapter 326

Three hundred and twenty six

Wesley POV

Dropping Isabella off felt like parting with something too valuable to let go.

Beyond her stamina in bed, which, by the way, I wasn’t complaining about, there was something else.

I had connected with her in ways that would be very difficult to walk away from.

Sometimes I would remind myself what I was doing, and it would bring a certain discomfort. This was supposed to be purely sexual and nothing more.

But I liked her.

It showed in how I tossed and turned in bed alone, reminiscing about how she tucked her head beside me. I would wake up in the morning and not want to go out, wanting to spend the rest of the day with her.

Even that was mild compared to what I had begun to experience lately.

The heaviness I usually carried around this point in the fortnight wasn’t there. My muscles didn’t feel as tight. I slept through the night, and my appetite seemed normal.

The life I had lived had trained me to expect a spiral around this time, and to expect being rushed to the daughters for my fortnightly dose of medication and torture.

I braced for it.

Perhaps I had too much sex to numb whatever was supposed to come up. At one point, I even checked the date to make sure I hadn’t gotten the timing wrong. 1

As I drove to the office, my hand rested loosely on the steering wheel.

None of this made sense.

Was my wolf finally stabilizing?

I headed upstairs, answering greetings instead of ignoring them or snapping at my poor secretary.

In the office, I checked my heart rate and blood pressure. Everything was fine. No agitation, insomnia, or signs of fragmentation.

My dad stopped by that morning, entering without knocking.

I was giving instructions to my secretary when he walked in. He sat there watching me, an eyebrow raised. When we were finally alone, I expected the usual questions about why I was at work.

“You look well-rested, Son,” he said.

I shrugged.

“You didn’t go to Joanna alone, did you?”

“No.”

“Then why do you seem fine?”

“I have no idea,” I said, fiddling with my pen.

I could see the wheels turning in his head.

“That’s…new.”

“Maybe it’ll come tomorrow,” I said.

“Don’t jinx it,” he replied. “Maybe the treatment is working.”

“I wouldn’t want to give myself false hope.”

Lately, the symptoms had started before the stipulated date, and the attacks had grown severe enough

to worry everyone.

“Maybe Joanna gave me a bigger dose. That might explain it.”

He sighed.

“I wish this could stay permanent. I’m tired of those fortnightly visits where I have to hold you down while you scratch me.”

I chuckled, knowing exactly what he meant.

My day went great, so much so that even someone as annoying as Brandon noticed.

He worked with the pack’s Operations Council, reviewing matters that required council approval and reporting on territorial affairs. Today, he had brought me a document concerning the Eastern Territory for me to review and approve.

He handed it over.

“Just in case you need a thesaurus or an encyclopedia of explanations, I have this here,” he said, placing another document beside the one I was supposed to sign.

“I already know about the project, so I’ll just go ahead and sign,” I said.

“Oh, that’s new,” he said.

“What is?”

“You’re not being a crybaby. You always assume that anyone who wants to work is targeting your Alpha position,” he said with a devilish smile.

“Brandon, if you spent half the time studying me on something productive, it might actually help you,” I said, not sounding the slightest bit annoyed.

“True, but it’s hard not to notice your tantrums, because you make it obvious and then run to your

mommy for petting.”

“That’s the best you could come up with?”

He scoffed.

“You’re really not going to take the bait?”

I sighed, already tired of going back and forth with him.

“If you came here to tell me something, tell me. Or if you came here hoping to annoy me, you’re wasting your time.”

Brandon scoffed.

“Well, let’s see how far this lasts.”

I turned back to my computer.

“Close the door behind you.”

When he eventually left, I found myself smiling, loving the ego boost this new mood had given me.

I left early because Grandma Cassidy had a meeting with the Daughters that weekend, and I was hoping to catch up with her. I stopped by a tea shop and picked up some of the fine tea she liked. She always said Anita got the good stuff.

Then I headed to her room.

“Grandma,” I said, knocking.

“Wesley,” she said, surprised to see me, giving me a once-over. Like my dad, she seemed to expect me to be in pain.

She took the tea bag from me, still studying my face.

“When your dad said you were fine, I thought he was exaggerating. You’re supposed to go in today.”

“Don’t I look fine?” I said, hugging her and pecking her forehead.

Her gaze moved from my eyes to the pendant.

“How do you feel, though?”

“I don’t know. But I feel fine.”

She didn’t seem to buy it.

“Still, you should come to the facility so we can be sure.”

“I don’t think that’s necessary,” I said. “Let my wolf settle first. If anything happens, then I can go.”

She set the tea aside and we sat on her bed.

“Now, what is going on between you and Isabella?”

“What?” I said.

She sucked her teeth.

“Child, I’m too old for this hide-and-seek the two of you are playing. She dropped Maverick off here and picked him back up, but I know she was with you.”

“How would you know that?”

“Because I do.”
