TEMPORARY MATES PERMANENT CRAVINGS novel Chapter 310

Three hundred and ten

Wesley POV

Anita’s second set kicked off, and the club loosened with it. More people abandoned their seats for the dance floor, drinks flowing freely as the music climbed louder.

My eyes wandered toward the crowd and found Isabella dancing.

I tried and failed to look away. The irritating part was that she wasn’t doing anything outrageous or trying to command attention. She simply moved with the music, her waist finding the rhythm as though she’d been born to dance.

The little chipmunk beside her looked like someone who had just been handed the greatest gift of his life, and he followed every move she made with a satisfied grin.

I took a sip of my drink, forcing my eyes away before Barbara or Charlie noticed where my attention kept drifting.

Thankfully, Barbara had found a new target: Nina, Charlie’s date.

Charlie had brought Nina along tonight, which surprised me. Years ago, they’d been a thing. It was nothing serious enough to become a relationship, but it was enough for them to realize they were better off as friends. Seeing them together tonight made me wonder if they were giving it another shot.

Unfortunately for Nina, Barbara had decided to turn dinner conversation into an interrogation, since they were both doctors.

“So you really completed your residency in the North?” Barbara asked pleasantly, swirling the ice in her glass. “I’ve always wondered how different the standards are there.”

“They’re accredited,” Nina answered evenly.

“I’m sure they are,” Barbara replied, chuckling. “Except the facilities don’t exactly have the same resources we do here.”

“The lack of resources teaches you different skills.”

Barbara hummed. “Necessity is a wonderful teacher. Though I suppose that’s why most physicians trained in the North have to spend a little time adjusting before they’re trusted with the same level of cases here.”

Nina wasn’t smiling anymore. Charlie caught my eye across the table, probably wondering how Barbara had managed to turn medicine into a competitive sport.

“Back me up here, Wesley. You’ve been to the Northern Medical Academy. You know it isn’t as backward as she’s making it sound.”

I blinked, realizing I’d missed most of the conversation.

“I’ve been there,” I said with a shrug. “Seemed like they were producing doctors, not butchers

Nina snorted into her drink, and Barbara didn’t seem to mind. The conversation rolled on without me giving my attention room to drift back across the room.

Isabella met my gaze. Neither of us looked away. She reached for her boyfriend and guided his hand to her waist

Annoyance, jealousy, and desire all tangled together until I couldn’t separate one from the other

“Alpha Wesley!” the man said brightly, extending a business card ‘I’ve been hoping to speak to you about a new investment opportunity for the pack.”

I looked at the card, then at him.

“You picked a nightclub?”

His face reddened, even as I shook his hand anyway.

“I… thought I’d shoot my shot.”

“You did. Now shoot it during office hours. Book a meeting. If the proposal survives daylight, I’ll read it.”

“My apologies, Alpha,” he said with an awkward laugh and stepped aside.

I continued toward the hallway, amazed at my own ridiculousness for going after someone whose boyfriend was upstairs waiting for her.

Barbara was at my table. Anita liked Isabella enough to kill me if I complicated her life.

Every sensible thought I had told me to leave the girl alone. I ignored every one of them and pushed into the hallway she’d disappeared into.
