TEMPORARY MATES PERMANENT CRAVINGS novel Chapter 244

Two hundred and forty four

Lisa’s POV

“I have been assigned to your birth pack.”

Cassidy’s voice over the phone made my heart beat faster. They were following leads.

I looked at the wall.

“Is that even safe? Luna Catherine is part of the Meridian. She is powerful enough to make things worse.”

“We can’t just fold our arms,” Cassidy said. “We need to find out what is anchoring the false bond between Evangeline and Cameron. Until we do, we’re merely guessing.”

I stayed silent.

“So what will you do when you get there?”

A quiet chuckle colored her voice. The wariness I’d heard every other time was gone, leaving behind an ease that made me smile. She was making an effort to ease my nerves, even if she’d rather chew stones than admit it.

“I’m going to observe first,” she said. “Perhaps I’ll pretend I got lost.”

“Please be careful. I don’t want anything happening to you because of me.’

“That’s my job. I agreed to be your sponsor.”

I understood the word sponsor as her commitment to keeping me alive long enough to have the baby.

“Doesn’t mean I should be comfortable with it,” I said.

“That’s why I’m telling you where I’m going instead of disappearing. I’ll do my best to come back.”

The line went dead. My mom sat opposite me on the sofa. She waited for a response, but my mind was on Cassidy.

“She’ll be fine,” Mom said. “Don’t forget that because of her, Kieran was saved from Dominion.”

I stretched my legs, wincing as the tightness in my ankles reminded me they’d started to swell.

“All this tension has made me hungry,” I said.

Mom smiled and disappeared into the kitchen.

I was halfway through my second plate when her phone rang. She answered, listened, and a gasp escaped her. My mouth was still full as I searched her expression.

“Cameron just crossed the border,” she said. “Kieran says he’s heading here.”

Shit.

I reached for my glass and swallowed the rest of my juice.

Joanna’s warning crashed back into me. Don’t tell him about the Daughters. Assume every conversation becomes information for them.

“Relax,” Mom said. “Act normal. You’ve done nothing wrong.”

Easy for her to say.

I hurried upstairs, peeled off my oversized pajamas, and pulled on a yellow sundress. Cold water splashed across my face. I unraveled the messy knot in my hair and brushed it until it fell over my shoulders.

The rumble of an engine rolled into the driveway. I barely made it to the bottom of the stairs before the front door opened.

His gaze found mine, and the strain in his face melted into a smile. He crossed the room without a word and folded me into his arms. I tried to ignore the knots growing in my stomach.

“I missed you,” he murmured against my ear before his lips brushed mine.

I leaned into the kiss, then caught myself. Somewhere behind us, Mom was probably pretending not to watch.

Cameron’s hand settled over the curve of my belly. The baby answered with a firm kick. His eyes lit up as he sank to one knee, a grin spreading across his face.

“Hey, little troublemaker,” he said, pressing a kiss against my stomach. “I’ve missed you too.”

He looked up at me. “And your mother as well.”

His eyes never left mine.

“You don’t have to keep looking at me like that,” he said as he rose. “I swear on my life, I’ll never hurt you again.”

“Cameron,” Mom said, stepping forward. “You’re here.”

He turned to her with a smile.

“Good afternoon, Susan. It’s good to see you. I was passing by and wanted to check on you, Lisa, and the baby. Kieran kept acting as though I needed an official invitation to come.”

Mom laughed as she ushered him inside.

Our eyes met. She gave me a pointed look that said, Keep it together. Then she excused herself, leaving us alone.

I settled onto the sofa across from him. He reached for my hand instead. The space between us disappeared as he drew me beside him. I went willingly, resting my head against his shoulder while his arm slipped around me. His thumb brushed circles over my hand, as though he needed the reassurance that I was really there.

“Is it safe to leave without her permission?” I asked.

He didn’t respond. I had to look up.

“Franklin and I have a direction,” he said, staring into the distance. “If they’re doing something to me, eventually they’ll leave a trail.”

I already knew this. Franklin had explained the same plan. I let Cameron believe he was telling me first.

“I think we’re finally going to beat them,” he said.

“I hope so,” I said.

He lifted my hand and brushed a kiss across my knuckles before placing a small velvet box in my palm.

“I brought you something.”

I opened it.

Nestled inside was a gold bracelet, a tiny moon charm catching the light.

A laugh rumbled from his chest. “You’re wondering if it’s poisoned.”

Heat crept into my cheeks. He reached into his pocket and unfolded the receipt. “Bought it this morning.”

I looked from the paper to the bracelet.

“It’s a reasonable precaution,” he said with a faint smile. “It’s just jewelry.”

I held out my wrist. His fingers lingered against my skin as he fastened the clasp. The moon charm settled against my pulse. I turned my wrist, watching it catch the light.

“It’s beautiful.”

He didn’t answer. When I looked up, he was watching me.

“How long are you staying?” I asked.

“The night.” He didn’t hesitate. “I’ve spent enough time away from you.”

The words twisted against the secret pressing at the back of my mind.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

He frowned.

“I mean… you’ve only just started feeling better. You should stay close to Evangeline. If something happens…”

“I’ll manage,” he said, cutting me off. “I came here because I wanted to spend tonight with you.”

I forced myself to nod.

I couldn’t tell him about the chapter house. Keeping the truth from him wasn’t the hardest part anymore. Pretending it didn’t hurt was.

His mouth covered mine. My breath caught as he pulled me against his chest, the kiss growing hungrier, stealing every rational thought until all I could feel was him.

“Lisa,” he whispered when we broke for air. “I need you right now.”

Our tongues met and stroked each other slowly at first, then with growing hunger. His hand held the back of my neck as he pulled me closer. Heat spread through my chest and down between my legs. I kissed him back just as hard, tasting him, wanting more of this connection.

His hand found my thigh, and I stopped him.

“Not here,” I whispered in his ear.

The words barely left my lips before my pulse betrayed me. His warmth tempted me to forget, to lean in, and believe this was okay.

But monsters didn’t announce when they were about to surface.

My muscles stayed taut, ready to shove him away if his eyes lost their focus. Wanting him felt like edging closer to a lion’s den, fascinated by the quiet inside, convincing yourself the beast was asleep. The closer you stepped, the easier it became to forget that one wrong move could end with its jaws around your throat.

Upstairs, he tilted his head and pushed his tongue deeper into my mouth. I moaned against him and pressed my body forward, my belly touching his. The kiss turned wet and urgent. Our breaths mixed as we refused to stop.

His hands glided over me, lingering on the curve of my swollen belly. His thumbs traced circles across the stretched skin before he lowered himself and pressed a kiss beneath my navel, then another along the roundness. that carried his child. Warmth bloomed beneath every touch, settling deep in my chest.

He rested his forehead against my belly, a smile tugging at his mouth. When he lifted his gaze to mine, his eyes held a quiet wonder.

“You’ve never looked more beautiful,” he murmured, his palm cradling the curve between us. “Our baby already has the safest place in the world.”

The sincerity in his words and the desire in his eyes stole my breath. His gaze searched mine, carrying a quiet question, as though he was waiting for permission to have me. I answered with a small nod.

He touched my body as if it were priceless art. I shivered under his attention as he kissed lower, his mouth gentle, but full of want. My breasts spilled eagerly out of my dress. He watched their gentle rise and fall before cupping them in his hands. He took one nipple into his mouth and sucked with strong pulls, sending pleasure straight through me.

“Yes, like that,” I whispered, my fingers in his hair.

He switched to the other breast and sucked harder, making me arch.

He was rock-hard and ready as I pulled down his zipper and wrapped my fist around his shaft, moving my hand back and forth. He let out a loud groan when I leaned in and took him into my mouth.

“Lisa, your mouth feels so good.”

“You taste so good,” I murmured, then took him deeper, my tongue working along the shaft. The taste of him filled me while I bobbed my head. His hand rested in my hair, guiding but not forcing.

Moisture beaded and dripped between my legs as he lowered his mouth to me. I gasped and grabbed the sheets as his tongue found my trigger, delivering short licks and sucks.

When he pushed his tongue deeper, I cried out, my hips lifting toward his mouth. “Cameron, oh God, don’t stop.”

The intensity made my legs shake. Warm waves rolled through my pregnant belly and down my thighs. He kept going without pause. My body felt alive and burned for release.

“I’m so close,” I panted. He pushed his tongue deep one more time and didn’t stop until my senses shattered as I

came.

He let me breathe and watched me with a smile.

“Tell me if it’s too much,” he whispered.

I nodded as he positioned a pillow to make me comfortable. Then he settled behind me and pressed the head of his cock against my entrance.

He pushed inside slowly. The hot fullness stretched me in the best way. I moaned at how deep he felt.

He started to thrust, one hand on my hip and the other cupping my breast. Each stroke sent heat through my body. I pushed back to meet him, loving the way he filled me.

“Fuck, you are so wet and tight,” he groaned.

Our rhythm grew faster but stayed careful. His cock slid in and out, hot and slick. Cameron kissed my neck and shoulder while he fucked me. The warmth between us turned intense as he gripped me tighter and drove deeper.

Pleasure crashed through me in strong waves. I cried out and pulsed around his cock, warmth flooding every part of me. Cameron thrust a few more times and came hard, filling me with heat.

Contentment settled over me, leaving my limbs pleasantly heavy. Cameron gathered me against him, his arm wrapped around my waist while his hand rested over the curve of my belly. I laced my fingers through his, holding his hand there.

His steady heartbeat echoed beneath my cheek. Wrapped in each other’s warmth, we surrendered to sleep without letting go.

Sometime in the middle of the night, the room stayed dark when his hand woke me. Cameron pressed against my back, already hard. I turned my head and kissed him sleepily.

“Again?” I whispered.

“Yes,” he answered, his voice rough. “I can’t get enough of you.”

He entered me from behind in the darkness. The fullness came quick and deep. I gasped softly as he stretched me again. We moved slowly and quietly, his cock sliding in and out with wet sounds. The heat built quickly in the dark

room.

His hand stayed on my belly while he thrust.

“You feel perfect,” he murmured against my ear.

I reached back and held his thigh, pulling him deeper. Every stroke felt hotter in the dark. Pleasure rose steadily and strongly.

We came together this time, quiet moans mixing as I clenched around him and he spilled inside me once more. Warmth spread through my body again. We stayed joined, breathing together until sleep pulled us under.
