TEMPORARY MATES PERMANENT CRAVINGS novel Chapter 200

Nadia POV

The outer chamber remained crowded despite the hour, and it unsettled me how many people still came here late at night.

Everybody looked burdened by something. Some sat quietly with clasped hands, and others whispered among themselves while the younger attendants moved between them carrying bowls of herbs and water.

I sat near the far wall while two oracle attendants kept glancing at me before quickly looking away. At that point, I no longer cared enough to feel embarrassed.

Cameron mattered more.

I still had not told Franklin I came here. If I had, he would have insisted on coming with me, and I could not/ handle another person trying to stop me tonight.

One of the attendants approached me.

“The oracle will see you now.”

I stood immediately.

The chamber smelled of smoke and dried herbs. Candles flickered along the curved walls while the oracle sat cross -legged behind a low table covered with bowls and carved stones. I removed my shoes before stepping fully inside.

“My lady,” she greeted softly. “I did not expect to see you tonight.”

She looked exhausted herself.

“I need help,” I said bluntly. “Something is happening to my brother.”

She gestured toward the stool opposite her, and I sat.

“You told me to cleanse the house. I did it. Nothing changed. He keeps getting worse.”

Smoke curled slowly from the bowl between her hands.

“I’m trying to understand what exactly you want from me,” she said.

“I want you to tell me what’s wrong with him.”

“Nadia,” she said gently, “people say many things when they’re frightened. Betrayal, illness, grief, conflict; eventually someone starts accusing someone else of rituals or curses.”

“This isn’t paranoia! He doesn’t feel like himself anymore. He forgets things mid-conversation and barely sleeps. Sometimes he sounds normal, and other times it feels like somebody hollowed him out and left the shell standing there, and he is refusing help.”

The oracle lowered her gaze. “That makes this difficult.”

“Matthias confirmed my fears tonight. They’ve been around Cameron for much longer than we realized.”

The oracle went still after that.

“Do you know something?”

“I know fear spreads quickly through packs,” she replied carefully.

She reached for my wrist. The second her fingers touched my skin, her looks grew intense. Her hand tightened before she let go again.

“What?” I demanded.

She stared at me strangely now and unsettled enough now that some of my anger started turning into fear instead.

“When loved ones are spiritually connected, their emotional imprint usually remains clear around close family members,” she said. “But every time I try to focus on Cameron through you, it feels obstructed.”

“So you do see something.”

“I see interference,” she admitted quietly. “Not answers.”

I sat still and she rubbed her forehead.

“Something around your brother feels wrong, but I cannot tell whether it is spiritual manipulation, psychological deterioration, or something else entirely.”

“And you’re just going to sit here while he deteriorates?”

“If Cameron truly believes nothing is wrong with him, then forcing intervention too aggressively may push him toward the very people influencing him.”

The warning only made me more frustrated.

“So what am I supposed to do?”

“Do not isolate yourself.”

“That’s not an answer.”

“It’s the best one I have right now.”

I laughed bitterly.

“You’re supposed to be the link to the Moon Goddess, yet somehow nobody knows anything useful.”

Pain crossed her face briefly. “I am an oracle, not a god.”

The chamber fell silent until she spoke.

“Has he stopped sleeping properly? That kind of obstruction usually worsens at night.”

“Can you help him or not?”

She sighed. I got up and picked my purse.

“Nadia,” she said before I reached the doorway. “Do not confront his mate alone.”

I turned toward her.

“Why?”

Her expression looked deeply troubled now.

“Because if someone truly is influencing Cameron, then the most dangerous thing in that house may not be the person doing it.”

That confusion in her explanation followed me all the way out of the chamber.
