Chapter 240
Alice couldn’t calm down, thinking about the photo. Chloe’s father was alive! The car accident was far more complicated than it seemed.
Ethan sounded dubious.“Alice, what do you mean? Chloe’s father is dead. He saved you, then went back to save Mom and Dad, but the car exploded, killing them all.”
“If the car exploded, you wouldn’t have seen his face clearly. Are you sure it was Chloe’s father?” Alice pressed.
“Of course! 1 saw Chloe’s father driving the car. I wouldn’t be mistaken.”
Alice frowned. Mistaken? She’d recognized Chloe’s father in the photo. So where was the discrepancy?
Alice said coldly, “What if Chloe’s father isn’t dead?”
“That’s impossible! You’re making excuses to avoid repaying Chloe’s debt!” Ethan was angry. Alice found this ridiculous.“Didn’t you suspect anything?”
“I investigated the accident! The only lead is the Garcia family. There are no other clues. You’re so clever; go investigate yourself.”
Alice took a deep breath. “Besides the Garcia family, did you investigate our driver?” Had Ethan never suspected anything?
“Alice, Chloe’s father is dead. Why are you fixated on a dead man?”
Alice realized the Windhams hadn’t suspected the driver. She suspected Chloe’s father might be connected to the Garcia family. But she’d never heard of any conflict between the Mos and her
parents.
She considered mentioning this to Ethan, but seeing his stubbornness, she decided against it. She didn’t want to alert anyone.
Ethan said angrily, “Alice, you’re heartless! Four was manipulated into attacking you. Can’t you give him a chance?”
“Only God gives second chances. I’ll send him to God; I can’t control anything else,” Alice said, hanging up. She’d investigate herself; Ethan wouldn’t believe her. She’d get concrete evidence. and shove it in his face.
Standing up, she saw Mrs. Yates speaking to a nurse near the stairs. Mrs. Yates was using the service stairs.
Mrs. Yates’s assistant, disguised as a nurse, reported, “Madam, we found the girl’s room. But Jack has people guarding the exits, and TG PR is there. It’ll be difficult to approach her.” “He used TG PR? He’s really smitten with her! I have to see this vixen who’s captivated my son.” Mrs. Yates was shocked. Only Jack’s wife–to–be would receive such treatment; a private PR team. Jack had given this girl that status quickly. This was bad.
“Keep investigating. I’ll try another way, Mrs. Yates told her assistant, who left. Mrs. Yates approached Alice.“Dear, what are you looking at?”
“Ants. Passing the time,” Alice replied.“Are you visiting someone?”
“Yes, I’ll go up soon. Dear, how did you get hurt? It doesn’t look like an accident; you were assaulted.” Mrs. Yates noticed the bruises; someone had hit her.

Alice looked uncomfortable. Nothing.”
“Dear, were you assaulted? Tell me; I’ll help you. Don’t let men walk all over you. If he hits you,
hit back!”
Alice chuckled.“It wasn’t assault, but my brother hit me.”
“What a terrible brother! If my daughter were assaulted by my son, I’d break his legs! How could he hit his sister?” Mrs. Yates was angry.“Who is he? I’ll get you the best lawyer.” “No, I can handle it. Thank you, pretty auntie.”
Mrs. Yates touched her face. Is my skincare that good? I could be

your mother.”
Mrs. Yates’s mood improved. “Dear, can you help me get to the VIP ward? Pretend I’m your family.”
“Sure.” Mrs. Yates was surprised.“You’re not asking why?”
“No need.” Alice stood.“Let’s go. I want to go back to my room.”
Mrs. Yates linked arms with Alice, hoping to avoid attention. The guards exchanged glances, pretending not to notice; perhaps Mrs. Yates was visiting her future daughter–in–law. They reached the ward, and Mrs. Yates smiled triumphantly.
Alice smiled at Jack, who stood in the hallway. Seeing them arm–in–arm, Jack’s impassive face cracked. Was he seeing things?
Alice noticed Jack’s odd expression. Following his gaze, she looked at Mrs. Yates. Mrs. Yates’s eyes widened. She panicked and fled. Busted! Jack was supposed to be at an international conference!
Mrs. Yates fled down the stairs. Jack approached Alice, concerned. “You… are you okay? What did she say?”
“Nothing. She asked for directions, Alice said, noticing Jack’s nervousness.“Do you know her?”
“Know her?” Jack
her? Jack carefully observed Alice’s expression, anxious. That’s all? “Yes. She asked for directions. A rich lady, well–maintained.” Alice looked at Jack. “Do you know her?”
Jack hesitated. Their phones rang simultaneously. Alice realized it was the alert from Chloe’s phone; she’d contacted her father.
This chapter introduces a new element of intrigue, involving Jack’s mother, creating further suspense and anticipation for future developments while maintaining the strong Americanized setting and characterizations.

The readers' comments on the novel: Six Brothers Plea for Forgiveness (Alice)
This story is incomplete!!! You get us into the story then you leave us with a cliff hanger. Plus there's so many errors. It is obvious that English is second ( or 3rd) language. Author has mixed up names on several characters. Mixed up he/she , him/her. Made story too long by repetitive sentences. Made it look like the reader wasnt able to retain parts of the story by repeating certain aspects. I know authors do that but this author did it too often. This story lets you see what an eye for an eye would mean to some cultures. Needs MAJOR proof reading. Pro: great family drama. The one emotion you feel the most in this story is anger & discuss. There are a few funny (actually hilarious) parts in there. You want the good guy to win even though he may been at fault for something. You want justice for Alice and you want to see her independent from her brothers totally. I feel the author is on the right track but just needs to clean it up....
Except Alice's and Jack's names, all other names are mixed. And why there is LUKE'S FATHER instead of EATHEN...
I want yo ask that wht Alice's surname is keep on changing from Wolsh to Windham to Lu???? And Andrew to Garett? And Jane's name to Chloe as well...
