She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 40

It was a massive, three-hundred-square-meter premium sample room with soaring five-meter ceilings. Thousands of fabric bolts hung from automated tracks running along the walls, cascading like waterfalls from the ceiling all the way to the floor. Specialized track lighting highlighted the unique textures and sheens of every single roll.

"These are the master samples we retain from our collaborations with international luxury brands. Many of these are highly limited runs that you absolutely will not find on the open market."

Zena was completely dazzled. She tentatively reached out to touch a shimmering piece of aqua-blue brocade, then quickly pulled her hand back, terrified of somehow ruining it.

Shera examined the materials bolt by bolt, mentally visualizing how each could be sculpted into different garments.

The vice director spent a long time searching near the back before stopping in front of a row of sheer fabrics. He pulled out two options. "What do you think of these?"

Shera stepped closer, rubbing the fabric between her fingers before shaking her head. "The yarn is too thick."

He presented another option—a semi-translucent base woven with a muted, ash-gold undertone. She pinched the fabric; it was impossibly soft. The metallic threads were as fine as human hair, seamlessly blended into the weave, providing an exquisite shimmer that wasn't overly flashy.

She held it up against the black satin sample, and the pairing was flawless.

Observing her satisfied expression, the vice director relaxed. "We don't have a massive amount of this left in stock, but if it's for a custom piece rather than mass production, it should be more than enough."

Shera nodded. "That works perfectly."

"Excellent. I'll have the floor technicians cut your swatches right away. We'll package the satin and the gold sheer together, along with the full technical spec sheets, so your studio can start drafting immediately."

They spent a little more time touring the entire sample room, taking careful notes on other unique materials they might need for future collections.

By the time they stepped back outside, the sky was already turning a dusky orange.

Sitting in the passenger seat with the fabric swatches and spec sheets hugged to her chest, Zena looked incredibly pleased. "I finally get why high-end designers demand factory visits. You literally cannot find treasures like this sitting on a shelf in a store."

Shera laughed softly. "Exactly. Plus, being here lets us communicate specific adjustments directly with the manufacturers."

The preliminary competition results would be announced in exactly one week.
