She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 91

Hulda was just about to head out when Cora and Valery rushed into the room.

Cora, moving with aggressive haste, shoulder-checked Hulda without an ounce of remorse as she blew past her, making a beeline straight for Miles.

Hulda grabbed her aching shoulder. Between a full day at the institute and rushing straight to the hospital, she was physically and emotionally drained. She had absolutely no energy left to bicker or defend herself. All she wanted was to fulfill her duties as a mother and then escape this house that constantly suffocated her.

But to her surprise, it was Herbert who spoke up this time. "Do you not look where you're walking, Cora? If you're blind, just say so."

Cora stared at him in sheer disbelief, hardly processing that those words had just come out of her brother's mouth.

It was a well-known fact that she despised Hulda and made her life miserable at every turn.

She had always treated her sister-in-law this way. Whenever Herbert witnessed it in the past, he never said a word. If anything, he would tell Hulda to watch her step and stop getting in people's way.

Yet today, he was actually reprimanding his own sister!

Even Valery looked at her son in utter shock.

Since when did he care about Hulda enough to speak up for her?

Back at the hospital, hadn't Hulda just threatened to divorce him?

Ah, of course. Valery scoffed internally. The woman was just playing games, pulling away to get his attention. And to her dismay, it seemed Herbert was falling for it.

Valery's eyes darkened. Displeased that her son had scolded his sister for this woman's sake, she shot Hulda a hypercritical glare.

"She was blocking the doorway. Why are you yelling at Cora?" Valery snapped at Herbert before turning her sharp gaze on Hulda. "It's getting late, and nobody has eaten yet. Go to the kitchen and make dinner for everyone. Miles has a weak stomach right now, so make sure you cook something light for him."

Hulda had intended to go to the kitchen to cook for her son anyway—but only for her son. She didn't have the patience or the stamina to play personal chef for the entire Jewell family.

She was just about to refuse when Herbert beat her to the punch.

"Mom, don't we have a nanny specifically hired to cook?"
