She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 114

"That's exactly the problem," Herbert sighed, rubbing his temples again.

He had no idea what had happened behind the scenes to make Brandon change his attitude so drastically.

But the damage was done. All he could do now was forge ahead and find a workaround.

"Justin and I are pulling every string we have to get us entry passes before next Friday."

"This is all my fault. I'm completely useless to you," Sylvie murmured, her voice muffled as she dropped her head.

Herbert's expression melted. He reached out and affectionately ruffled her hair. "How can you say that? You're my right-hand woman. You handle so much of my workload. And for tomorrow's retreat, Justin and I only booked the rooms. It's up to you to organize the itinerary and coordinate everyone. I'm lucky to have you by my side, Sylvie."

Her eyelashes fluttered as she leaned into the warmth of his palm. Looking up, her eyes were shining. "Meeting you and getting to stay by your side is my luck too, Mr. Jewell."

...

After dropping off the divorce papers, Hulda returned to Jadecrest Villas.

She sat in the courtyard, staring up at the moon, holding the same position for a long time.

Her mind raced. She thought of Herbert, of Miles, of the home she had desperately tried to hold together for seven years, and finally, of herself.

Now that the dust had settled and the adrenaline had faded, she was undeniably sad.

She had truly intended to spend the rest of her life with him.

She had viewed him as her eternal partner, her one love. She knew marriage required sacrifice, and she had willingly played the martyr.

But he had never seen her sacrifices. Or rather, he had chosen to look right past them. In his eyes, her very existence was a stain—a dirty little secret he was too ashamed to acknowledge to the world.

Looking back, the entire foundation of their relationship had been fractured from day one.

Because of that, she chose not to harbor hatred. Hate would only anchor her to the past. She chose to let go.

Letting go of Herbert, letting go of their shared history, letting go of the man altogether—it was the only way she could move forward on her own path.
