Everett froze.
"There are a few more legendary spots up ahead. It'd be a crime to skip them."
Daphne threw over her shoulder, not looking back as she pulled him forward into the crushing crowd.
He could hear the tremor of panic in her voice.
Her grip on his hand was iron-tight, and he honestly couldn't tell if her palm was sweating or if it was his own.
The debate raged in his head for a solid minute. Should he pull away?
He felt that if he yanked his hand away right here in the middle of a crowded street, it would completely shatter her pride.
Daphne played the tough tomboy, but she was still a woman, and rejection stung no matter who you were.
He couldn't do it. He let his hand stay wrapped in hers, allowing her to drag him through the neon-lit chaos.
Truthfully, he couldn't wrap his head around why she had grabbed him in the first place.
Was it just to keep from losing each other in the mob?
His chest tightened, a strange, bubbling anxiety rising in his throat.
Even if she was just worried about getting separated, she didn't have to intertwine their fingers, did she?
Or maybe...
A chaotic, terrifying thought broke through the noise in his head.
She was making a move. She actually liked him.
They weaved through the ocean of people.
Daphne kept her eyes locked dead ahead.
She didn't dare look back.
It was a chaotic mix of adrenaline and pure, unadulterated shyness.
She knew if she turned around and made eye contact with him, her courage would completely evaporate, and she would drop his hand like a hot coal.
This was the first time she had ever genuinely fallen for a guy.
It was also the first time she had ever actively pursued one.
She was flying completely blind.
But if she was serious about winning him over, she had to make a move.
Sure, they had technically already slept together, skipping straight to the finish line.
