What was the point of missing him?
It was obvious he had zero attachment to her place, otherwise why would he slip away so quietly?
That thought brought up another question in her mind:
"Wait... was he just afraid of waking me up?"
Since Everett was naturally such a gentle and considerate guy, she figured that was highly likely.
Back on the first floor, Daphne finally noticed the table closest to the sofa where she had slept. There, waiting for her, was a fresh coffee, a croissant, and a hot breakfast sandwich.
Everything was still warm, clearly bought fresh that morning.
Frustrated, Daphne ruffled her already messy hair.
"Ugh... if he's not interested, why is he being so sweet to me?"
She kept complaining, but she couldn't wipe the grin off her face.
Pulling up a chair, she sat down and started eating.
Whether it was because Everett had bought it specifically for her or for some other reason, this was hands down the best breakfast she had ever tasted.
She quietly finished the meal all by herself.
It didn't take long.
Her stomach was full, but for some inexplicable reason, her heart felt incredibly empty.
"What is actually wrong with me?"
Resting her chin in her hand, she mumbled to herself.
She felt like she couldn't muster the energy to do anything.
"Am I sick?"
"Lovesick?"
The moment she said it, she laughed at herself.
When did she turn into such a sappy, clingy mess?
Pacing around her empty club in her nightgown, Daphne suddenly stopped in her tracks, a look of absolute determination crossing her face.
She pulled out her phone and made a call.
At that very moment, Melanie Royce was driving to the Lockridge Convalescent Home.
Her phone suddenly rang.
