She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 804

However, if they were willing to invest more time and capital, they could eventually find a substitute.

Especially since Preston was the CEO of Stellaris PharmaTech.

With his vast network backing them up, this problem could undoubtedly be solved.

And yet...

Melanie didn't want to go down that route.

Relying on Preston would just be a temporary band-aid.

It would also cement the industry rumor that the Royce Group was entirely dependent on Stellaris PharmaTech, just riding on their coattails.

Melanie refused to accept that outcome.

She wanted to build a permanent cure from the ground up.

At that moment, Preston was focused on the road.

Every now and then, he stole a glance at Melanie from the corner of his eye.

Ever since getting into the passenger seat, she had been frowning, lost in deep thought.

Just as Preston couldn't hold back anymore and was about to offer his help, he suddenly heard her say his name.

"Preston..."

Melanie turned her head, meeting his gaze.

Preston saw what looked like a brilliant spark of determination in her eyes.

"Take me to the city outskirts."

After nearly two hours of driving, Preston finally parked the car at her requested destination.

"You can wait for me right here! I'll walk the rest of the way myself."

"No."

Preston's refusal was instantaneous.

His commanding presence loomed over her, making Melanie's lips twitch as she forced a bitter smile.

"Come on, I'm not a child. Besides, the place I'm going is less than a five-minute walk from here..."

As she spoke, she pointed her finger straight ahead.

Through the towering trees, the faint silhouette of a building was visible at the edge of the woods.

From the outside, it looked exactly like an abandoned factory.

Preston's frown deepened.

"I need to take care of some business in there. You wait here. I suggest you catch some sleep in the car, because I might be gone for a while."

Despite her clear explanation, Melanie still couldn't find a trace of understanding or relief in Preston's dark, brooding eyes.

"I'm not blaming you..."

Her tone softened considerably.

"There's only one road leading up to this place, and behind it is a sheer cliff. No one could possibly sneak up... unless maybe a wild bear wanders in."

Melanie tried to make him laugh.

It failed, of course.

But even though Preston didn't smile, his expression wasn't quite as tortured as before.

Melanie let out a sigh of relief.

"So, as long as you guard this road, I won't be in any danger... and if anything does happen, I'll contact you immediately. You could rush over in less than five minutes."

"...Alright then."

Preston was finally persuaded.

Though the worry in his eyes hadn't diminished in the slightest.

And so, Melanie set off alone, walking toward the seemingly dilapidated "abandoned factory" just up ahead.

The building looked battered and decaying from the outside, but the security lock on the heavy door was state-of-the-art.

After entering the passcode and verifying both her fingerprint and retinal scan, the massive door finally clicked open.
