"Mrs. Whitmore!"
Gabriel Whitmore's eyes lit up.
The next second, noticing Melanie Royce's frown, he quickly corrected himself.
"Hehe, future Mrs. Whitmore."
Melanie had never been called that before; it was certainly a novel experience.
"Come, come, my future Mrs. Whitmore, please sit here."
Gabriel waved her over while pulling out the chair next to his.
After learning that Preston Whitmore was the top boss of Stellaris PharmaTech, many of her previous questions had been answered.
For instance, why Gabriel had helped her out of tough spots more than once.
And why Stellaris PharmaTech had proactively offered her opportunities.
All of this had been orchestrated by Preston from behind the scenes. He had been secretly helping her.
A faint warmth blossomed in her chest, and she lowered her gaze.
Regardless of whether her mother's accident had anything to do with the Whitmore family, Preston had never done her wrong.
"Future Mrs. Whitmore, what are you thinking about?"
Gabriel leaned in close, his curiosity piqued.
"Could you please not call me that?"
Melanie asked. Gabriel slapped his thigh.
"You're right! You're a straightforward woman. Let's drop the 'future' part! Even if you and my brother are broken up now, you're still going to marry him in the end. Think about it. With my brother's ruthless tactics, do you really think he'd let you marry anyone else?"
Melanie's expression tightened.
"So the Vice President of Stellaris is threatening me now."
As soon as she spoke, Gabriel lightly slapped his own mouth.
"My bad. Please don't take it to heart, Melanie!"
At that moment, Marjorie Kent and Frederick Whitmore walked in.
"Gabriel, what are you doing? Show some respect to your sister-in—ahem, to Ms. Royce."
Forget about his face; even his name was rarely mentioned.
It was because Preston hadn't been back in the Whitmore family for long—nowhere near as long as Gabriel had been their young master.
She could also tell that Gabriel, having been raised by them since childhood, was much closer and more familiar with Frederick and Marjorie.
No wonder Preston had said he didn't have deep feelings for the Whitmore family.
Unbidden, memories of Lowell Plain from four years ago surfaced in her mind.
Preston's past.
In just those few short days, Melanie had witnessed how difficult his life had been.
A poor, emotionally distant household, selfish parents, and a young Preston who had been ruthlessly bullied because of the birthmark covering half his face...
Suddenly, she felt as though everyone in the Whitmore family sitting at the table owed Preston an apology.
The atmosphere instantly grew tense. Gabriel, Marjorie, and Frederick all simultaneously sensed the displeasure radiating from Melanie.
It was so intense, it bordered on pure anger.
