She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 749

"I don't have... that deep of an attachment to the Whitmore family."

Hearing this, Melanie blinked in confusion.

Wasn't Preston the beloved eldest son of the Whitmore family? How could he not care for them?

Her large eyes darted around as a thought struck her. If Preston was the eldest son of Stellaris, that meant he was the biological brother of Gabriel Whitmore, the vice president.

But...

Preston and Gabriel looked absolutely nothing alike.

At least, they didn't look like blood brothers.

Her heart hammered against her ribs.

Was there some sort of deep-seated grudge between Preston and the entire Whitmore family?

But on second thought, Marjorie Kent treated Preston with genuine care. She didn't look like someone treating an adopted child.

Melanie noticed Preston's brow was deeply furrowed. His eyes didn't show a complete lack of feeling for the family.

It looked more like his feelings were incredibly complicated.

"So... you didn't approach me for the sake of the Whitmores. Then why?"

Seeing the sheer confusion on Melanie's face, Preston sighed softly, seemingly hesitating to speak.

The room descended into a pin-drop silence.

Suddenly, his gaze fell on the intimate items on the nightstand.

Melanie followed his line of sight, growing even more bewildered.

"Do you really... not remember anything at all?"

"Remember what?"

At her question, Preston stood up, walked over to the nightstand, and picked up the bowl of sweet chocolate sauce.

Just as Melanie opened her mouth to ask what he was doing, she watched him raise his hand and pour the entire bowl of chocolate sauce over his own head.

She was struck dumb.

"What are you doing?"

Preston, standing right in front of her, remained silent.

The sticky chocolate sauce slowly oozed down his forehead.

Melanie stared at him in utter incomprehension until more than half of his face was covered by the dark, viscous liquid.

It wasn't for the Whitmore family.

It was entirely for her.

Her mind suddenly feeling like a tangled mess, Melanie took a deep breath.

Seeing that the chocolate sauce on his forehead was about to drip into his eyes, she quickly grabbed some tissues and handed them to him.

"Hurry up and wipe that off!"

But he had poured far too much. No matter how much he wiped, it wouldn't come clean. So, Melanie grabbed his suit cuff and pulled him toward the massive bathtub.

"Wash up in here first."

Preston looked at her, his lips parting slightly.

He had wanted to tell her so many things.

But since she now knew who he was, saying it a minute early or late made no difference.

And so, Preston did as she instructed and washed his hair.

The chocolate sauce was hard to get out of his hair and off his face, so he ended up stripping off his clothes and taking a full shower.

The moment he began unbuckling his belt, Melanie immediately turned her back.
