Now that it had come to this, Eartha laid all her demands on the table.
There was no way she was going to sit in prison waiting to die. She wanted to leave the country.
Over the years, she had secretly stashed away a massive fortune overseas. As long as she could get out, she had ways to change her identity and disappear to a place where no one would ever find her.
Even if she couldn't live a life of high society glamour for the rest of her days, she would still never want for money, food, or freedom.
"In your dreams," Remington spat out in a gravelly tone.
He coldly grabbed a glass of cold water from the bedside table and threw it directly into Eartha's face.
"Wake up."
"Ah!"
Eartha never imagined that, with such a massive bargaining chip in her hands, Remington would still dare to treat her like this.
She shrieked, shivering as she wiped the water from her face, and glared fiercely at him.
"It seems Mr. Dashiell doesn't want to see his son after all! Aren't you afraid that whatever you do to me, I'll do tenfold to your boy? I wonder if a child that young could survive it."
Eartha's words oozed with pure malice and a heavy threat.
She refused to believe Remington was truly unbothered. The man had kept a lock of a dead baby's hair as a memorial.
How could he possibly not care about his biological son's life? How could he not want to get him back immediately?
As long as he wanted a family reunion right this second, he had to agree to her terms.
However, upon hearing this, Remington merely let out a cold scoff and took a step back.
"Then let's see which holds out longer—your stubborn bones and miserable life, or my speed in finding him."
With that, the man didn't show a single ounce of interest in negotiating further. He cast a look of pure disgust toward the lower half of Eartha's bed, turned on his heel, and walked out.
"You don't have the right to negotiate with me. You'd better focus on how to stay alive instead."
He couldn't compromise with Eartha right now. The moment he caved, this old hag wouldn't hand Joy over—she would only hide him away even tighter.
On the contrary, when Eartha realized she wasn't getting what she wanted, she would grow frantic, desperate, and sloppy. That was when she would make a mistake.
Remington's figure vanished from the doorway. Eartha's face twisted into a grotesque mask of rage as she viciously pounded the bedsheets with her fists.
Right at that moment, a doctor in a white coat walked into the room.
He stepped forward, grabbed Eartha's arm without a word, and drove a syringe straight into her vein, pushing the plunger down.
Eartha was entirely dazed, her emotional state still completely fractured from the sheer terror and fury Remington had just inflicted upon her.
It was only when the sharp sting of the medicine entering her bloodstream registered that she finally snapped back to reality.

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
