Lilith walked into Nicholas’s office and stopped.
All three of them were there.
Nicholas behind his desk. Lucian by the window. Sebastian on the leather sofa with his forearms on his knees looking up at her the moment she came through the door.
She did not even make it two steps inside before Sebastian stood up and crossed to her and pulled her down onto his lap like she belonged there.
She looked at him.
He buried his face in her hair.
Lilith looked at Nicholas. Then at Lucian. Then back at Nicholas.
"What is going on?" she asked. "He is sniffing me again."
Sebastian’s chest moved against her back.
A low sound that was almost a laugh muffled against her hair.
"Tonight is the full moon Lilith," Nicholas said.
She waited for him to continue.
"The curse sits heaviest on full moon nights," he continued. "It has been that way for three years. Every full moon the wolves push harder. The control gets thinner." He held her gaze. "But this time is different."
"Different how?" she asked.
"Because Kael has already marked you," Nicholas said. "And Sebastian and Lucian’s wolves haven’t. We do not know what that means for tonight. What it will do to all three of us when the moon rises." He paused. "So I called you here to tell you.....we need you to stay in your room tonight."
Lilith looked at him.
"All night," Nicholas said. "Do not come out. Do not come looking for any of us. Stay in your room with the door locked until morning."
She looked at Sebastian whose face was still buried in her hair like he was trying to memorize her scent down to the last molecule.
She looked at Lucian who was watching her from the window with his golden eyes doing that thing they did when his wolf was very close to the surface.
She looked back at Nicholas and felt something hot climb up the back of her throat.
"Is it because I am wolfless?" she asked
Nicholas’s expression did not change.
"Lilith....." He started saying but she cut him off.
"Because I cannot shift." The words came out faster now. Harder to stop. "Because tonight every wolf in this pack is going to shift and run together and you do not want your wolfless mate standing in the middle of it where everyone can see that she cannot....."
Her voice cracked.
She hated that it cracked.
The tears came anyway. Hot and immediate and she could not stop them.
"You want to hide me," she said. "In my room. So the pack does not ask questions about why the Alpha’s mate cannot shift like everyone else."
The office was completely silent.
Sebastian had gone still against her back.
Nicholas stood up.
He crossed the room in four strides. Took her from Sebastian’s lap gently, both hands under her arms and carried her to his desk and set her on the edge of it.
Then sat down in his chair and looked up at her.
His silver eyes completely steady.
Then she heard a growl.
Low and deep and coming from somewhere that was not entirely Nicholas.
Then he picked her up and placed her back on the desk.
Looked at her.
His silver eyes darker than they had been thirty seconds ago.
He placed one hand flat on her stomach.
Gently pressed her back until she was lying on the desk in front of him.
Then he sat down.
Pulled his chair forward until he was positioned directly between her legs.
His hands found her waist. Slid down. His fingers hooking into the waistband of her underwear.
He pulled them down slowly.
The moment the fabric got to her thighs her scent filled the entire office.
It was immediate and devastating.
Sebastian made a sound that didn’t sound human at all.
Something lower. Something that came from Rhen and not from Sebastian at all. A growl that raised every hair on the back of Lilith’s neck.
Lucian was off the window ledge and on his feet before the sound finished.
Nicholas had the underwear in his hand.
