Chapter 332: Someone’s Breaking Through The Wards

"Without you," Lilith said.

"Without us," Sebastian confirmed. "But alive. Safe. Free."

Lilith looked at Lucian. "And you? What do you want?"

Lucian’s jaw was so tight she thought it might crack. "I want to find a fourth option that doesn’t exist. I want to tear apart the Moon Goddess herself for putting us in this position. I want...." His voice broke. "I want you alive and bonded to us and powerful and safe. But I can’t have that. So I want whatever option means you survive. Even if it destroys me."

Lilith felt something crack inside her chest.

They were willing to lose her to save her.

Were willing to sever the bonds that connected them, walk away from their mate, spend the rest of their lives knowing she was out there somewhere living without them.

Because they loved her more than they loved themselves.

"What if I don’t want to give up my magic?" Lilith asked quietly.

All three brothers went still.

"Aunt Victoria said my Morvaine power is my birthright," Lilith continued. "My heritage. I’m the last witch in our bloodline. If I burn out my magic, that’s it. The Morvaine gift dies with me. Everything my family was....everything they died protecting....just gone."

"You would still be alive," Nicholas said.

"Would I?" Lilith challenged. "Or would I just be existing? Human and powerless and constantly reminded of everything I gave up?"

"That’s better than being dead," Sebastian said.

"Is it?" Lilith pulled her hand free from Nicholas’s and stood, pacing to the window. "You’re asking me to choose between my life and my identity. Between surviving and being myself. How is that any different than asking me to die?"

"Because you would still be YOU," Lucian said. "Magic doesn’t define who you are, Lilith. Your strength. Your courage. Your stubbornness." A ghost of a smile crossed his face. "Your ability to call us out on our bullshit. That’s who you are. Not the power in your blood."

"But the power in my blood is part of me," Lilith said, and tears were streaming down her face now. "It connects me to my mother. To my father. To generations of Morvaine witches who fought and died to keep our magic alive. If I give it up....if I burn it all away....I lose them too."

Sebastian stood and crossed to her, pulling her into his arms. She collapsed against his chest and let herself break apart while he held her.

"I don’t know what to do," she sobbed. "I don’t know which choice is right."

"Then don’t choose yet," Sebastian murmured against her hair. "We have a little more time. We figure out how to deal with Thalia first. We make sure you’re safe from immediate threats. And then we make this decision when we’re not all terrified and desperate."

Lilith wanted to believe him. Wanted to think they had time to breathe and plan and figure out a solution that did not end in tragedy.

But the curse was tightening around her ribs and she could feel her magic responding, getting stronger, feeding the very thing that was killing her.

Time was running out.

A knock at the door made them all turn.

"Come in," Nicholas called.

The door opened and Sera stepped inside with Agnes behind her. Both women took one look at Lilith’s tear-stained face and immediately understood.

"We can come back," Sera said quietly.

"No." Lilith pulled away from Sebastian and wiped her eyes. "Please stay. I need..." She stopped. "I need to talk to someone who isn’t bonded to me. Someone who can be objective."

Agnes crossed to her and took both her hands. "What do you need, sweetheart?"
