Damon pov
The formal council session was meant to finalize the last remaining details of Miriam's community's integration—official documentation, formal territory assignments, the kind of bureaucratic work that should have felt almost anticlimactic after everything we'd already survived to reach this point.
I sat beside my father, both of us listening as Helena worked through the final procedural items, when the chamber doors burst open with violent, splintering force.
Damian stood in the doorway, alone this time, no forces flanking him, his eyes wild and his expression carrying the same unhinged fury I remembered from our border confrontation, though considerably more unraveled now.
"You think this is finished," he screamed, already shifting mid-stride, his body contorting with violent, desperate momentum as he lunged directly toward the assembled council members.
Chaos erupted immediately. Council members scattered, several shifting defensively, and I moved instantly, my own wolf surging forward to intercept his charge before he could reach anyone genuinely vulnerable.
I caught him mid-lunge, both of us crashing hard against the chamber floor, and felt his claws rake across my shoulder before I managed to pin him properly, understanding with grim clarity that whatever remained of his rational planning had genuinely collapsed into pure, desperate rage.
Miriam had risen from her seat, moving toward the confrontation despite her still-healing injury, some fierce, protective instinct clearly overriding her better judgment, and I heard my father's sharp, urgent voice cutting through the chaos.
"Miriam, stay back," he called, and I registered movement as Callum and two enforcers rushed past me, converging on Damian's struggling form to help subdue him properly.
They worked quickly, professional efficiency overtaking the initial chaos, and within moments they'd secured him with heavy restraints, his shifted form gradually forced back into something more manageable despite his continued, violent struggling.
I released my hold once the enforcers had properly secured him, shifting back to human form, my shoulder throbbing where his claws had connected, though the wound appeared superficial rather than genuinely serious.
"You think capturing me actually solves anything," Damian screamed, still fighting against the restraints despite their obvious effectiveness. "This won't be over! You hear me? This will never end!"
Helena approached carefully, her expression carrying cold, absolute authority despite the chaos he'd just caused. "It's already over, Damian. You've just demonstrated, in front of formal council witnesses, exactly the kind of violent, unstable behavior that confirms everything we've already documented about your leadership."
