Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack (Evelyn and Damon) novel Chapter 108

Chapter 108

Her face went pale, genuine shock and fury both crossing her features as she registered what I’d just told her. “You were recording this?”

“Every word,” I confirmed, stopping the recording and slipping the phone back into my pocket. “Including your admission that Damon never actually threatened you, that your entire accusation is fabricated retaliation because Robert chose to end things with you rather than continue treating his marriage as something disposable.”

“You can’t use that,” she said, though genuine panic was now audible beneath her attempted composure. “That’s private, recorded without consent-”

“I’m well within my rights to record a conversation I’m directly part of,” I said, keeping my voice steady despite the satisfaction building beneath my careful composure. “And I fully intend to share this with the council immediately.”

She stared at me for a long moment, something calculating and increasingly desperate crossing her expression, before finally stepping back, some of her earlier confidence crumbling entirely.

“This isn’t over,” she said, though her voice carried considerably less conviction than it had moments

earlier.

“I think it actually is,” I said. “You’ve just handed the council direct evidence contradicting your own formal accusations. I don’t think there’s much left for you to actually fight with, going forward.”

She left quickly after that, practically fleeing down the street, and I stood there for a long moment, adrenaline finally catching up with me now that the confrontation had actually ended, my hands slightly shaking despite the controlled composure I’d managed throughout.

I checked on Willow, finding her still peacefully asleep in her stroller, entirely undisturbed by the tense exchange that had just unfolded around her, and felt a fresh wave of protective gratitude that she’d

remained oblivious to the whole confrontation.

I pulled out my phone immediately, calling Damon, my hands still slightly unsteady with lingering

adrenaline.

“Evelyn?” He answered quickly, some instinctive alarm already evident in his voice. “Everything okay?”

“I just had a confrontation with Genevieve,” I said, keeping my voice as steady as I could manage. “She approached me while I was shopping. Threatened me, admitted directly that her accusations against you are fabricated. I recorded the entire thing.”

There was a beat of stunned silence on the other end. “You recorded her admitting the accusations are false?”

“Every word,” I confirmed. “She said you never actually threatened her, that this is all retaliation because your father chose to end their arrangement.”

“Evelyn, that’s-” He stopped, something like relieved disbelief in his voice. “That’s exactly what we

needed. Are you okay? Did she threaten you directly, physically?”

“I’m fine,” I said, some of my earlier tension finally easing now that the immediate danger had passed.” Willow’s fine too, still asleep through the entire thing. Genevieve got close, said some genuinely ugly things, but nothing beyond verbal aggression.”

“I’m coming to get you,” he said immediately. “Where are you exactly?”

I gave him the location, and he arrived within minutes, finding me still standing near the small shop, Willow’s stroller positioned protectively beside me, adrenaline finally fully draining now that immediate crisis had passed.

“Are you actually okay,” he asked, pulling me into a careful, gentle embrace once he reached me, genuine concern evident in every line of his tense expression.

“I’m okay,” I said, leaning into the embrace gratefully. “Startled, angry, but okay. She said some awful things, Damon. Called me and your mother insects, said we both deserved to be cheated on.”

His jaw tightened with obvious anger at that. “I’m so sorry you had to deal with that alone.”

“I handled it,” I said, some quiet pride evident beneath my lingering adrenaline. “Recorded everything, made sure she understood exactly how thoroughly she’d just undermined her own case.”

“You’re incredible,” he said, something warm and grateful entering his expression despite the lingering tension. “This should completely resolve the council investigation, once they hear this recording.”

“I hope so,” I said, allowing myself finally to feel the full relief of the confrontation actually ending in our favor rather than escalating into something more genuinely dangerous.

We made our way back toward the compound together, Damon insisting on personally escorting us the rest of the way despite my assurances that the immediate danger had clearly passed, and I found myself grateful for his protective presence regardless, still processing the tense, unexpected confrontation and its unexpectedly favorable outcome.

“I’m sending this recording to Callum immediately,” Damon said, already pulling out his own phone once we reached our quarters. “The council needs to hear this as soon as possible, put an end to this entire manufactured investigation.”

I nodded, settling Willow carefully into her crib for a proper nap now that we were safely home, and watched Damon move with focused, determined energy, forwarding the recording, already composing a message to Callum explaining the unexpected but genuinely fortunate turn of events.

Whatever complicated challenges Genevieve had attempted to create, whatever genuine danger her fabricated accusations had posed to Damon’s standing and his father’s fragile recovery, I understood, watching him work with renewed confidence and relief, that her own desperate, calculated confrontation had ultimately handed us exactly the evidence we needed to resolve the entire situation decisively, in our favor.
