Chapter 81
She’s meant to go back to her pack after the wedding. I can’t prevent that without a good reason. This might be best for both of us. I don’t want her to think that there’s a chance between us. I don’t want to break her heart.
I can’t believe you can be so fucking stubborn. Lucifer’s so pissed with me that he’s swishing his tail back and forth violently, or so stupid, he added with a growl.
Enough, I snap at him, This is my decision.
Let her stay until the wedding. I’ll agree to keep my distance. I’ll make sure we don’t do anything like this again. I’ll behave. I just want to be able to lay eyes on her for the next few days before she leaves.
Lucifer, I….
He puts a block up, preventing me from reaching him, but not before I feel the depths of his sadness. He can’t bear to let Raven go. I’m forcing him to choose, to turn his back on his own desires and push aside his thirst for a mate that he loves. His sadness is so overwhelming that my knees buckle. It’s the first time he’s revealed his true feelings or at least experience how strong they are. He’s kept it from me all this time. Now I know. He’s given up. He’s resigned himself to the future I was creating, and my chest tightened in sorrow. Would he ever get over Raven, or was I about to break his heart literally and maybe even lose my wolf and best friend in the process?
