Chapter 280
Asher POV
“Here, have a muffin,” Aaron placed it on my plate after seeing me eye it longingly.
Years of having nothing but leftovers and mouldy food made this breakfast seem like a luxury to me, and one of my favourite foods was blueberry muffins.
I nibbled on it, and my eyes lit up as Aaron looked at me indulgently.
“So good,” I moaned.
Aaron stiffened and then slowly relaxed as I looked at him concerned.
He put a second muffin on my plate, and I giggled at him.
“Aaron, I can’t eat that much.”
I was used to much smaller portions after all.
Of course he ignored me. Stubborn jackass.
He just winked at me and turned back to his own plate.
“Men,” Marissa whispered, leaning forward to speak to me, her eyes dancing, “sometimes they lack common sense, don’t they?”
I tried to stifle my laughter. Damien shot her a wounded look, clearly having overheard but wisely remaining silent.
“I’ll get you some coffee,” Aaron was eagerly summoning an omega.
“I um, actually don’t like coffee,” I confessed in a low voice.
It was always too bitter for my liking.
He didn’t miss a beat.
“Juice for my babygirl it is,” he declared, and I blushed bright red while Marissa’s shoulders shook from silent laughing.
“Tone it down a little, Aaron,” Damien grumbled, “before my wife starts expecting me to show her the same amount of affection.”
Marissa looked affronted. Damien instantly knew he had said the wrong thing as he glanced at his wife.
“Me? Are you saying I’m not worth the effort?” she demanded.
She looked displeased.
-Damien rushed to reassure her.
“Baby, that’s not what I meant, I just meant that…” he trailed off, looking sheepish now as Marissa
hurrumphed at him.
I noticed the omega walking closer. She was beautiful with long blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. She was slender but with curvaceous hips. There was a strange look on her face, as though she was forcing a smile as she

approached me.
She looked angry? I didn’t even know her so why would she hold a grudge against me? I had to be imagining it
When she glanced at Aaron, I saw a genuine smile light up on her face.
I immediately felt self-conscious in comparison. My body was malnourished from lack of food, and my complexion was pale from being sickly. I felt like a troll and could not fathom why Aaron seemed to love me so much.
The omega tripped, and juice splashed all over me. It was cold. I flinched as Aaron’s gaze suddenly turned into fury.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to. It was an accident,” the omega had tears in her eyes, “please forgive me.”
She was sobbing now.
I saw pack members look over at the drama.
I frowned. It had looked like an accident, but the gleam in the girl’s eyes unsettled me. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but part of me instinctively knew it had been intentional. But she’d done it so smoothly it would be impossible to prove it.
“Candice,” Aaron growled, how could you be so clumsy? That’s my mate you just poured juice all over! How can you be so reckless?” he scolded her, looking fit to burst.
“Are you okay, Asher? I can lend you some of my clothes, how about that? Let’s go get you cleaned up,” Marissa’s voice was soothing as she helped me to stand up, but when she glanced at the sobbing Candice, her eyes grew cold.
“Clean this mess up and make sure this doesn’t happen again. Is that clear?” she hissed.
Candice nodded vehemently, sniffling as she tried to wipe the tears away.
Marissa pulled me up to her quarters. She let me shower and then handed me a dress and new underwear to put on.
“I haven’t worn it yet,” she explained, “and we’re about the same size.”
I nodded and hastily dressed. The pale green colour suited me perfectly, the bodice tight and the dress flowing down to my knees. It was light, perfect for the warm weather, and as I glanced at my reflection in the mirror, I felt pretty for the first time in what felt like forever.
“Thank you,” I rasped, “for your kindness.”
“It’s no problem,” Marissa scowled, “I know that little bitch did it on purpose. She’s always had eyes for Aaron. She’s jealous now he has his mate. Watch out for her dirty tricks,” she advised, “unfortunately I can’t punish her because she made it look like an accident. Come to me if you have any more problems,” she added, still scowling.
