Chapter 445 Scarlett’s Welcome
The invisible hand slammed Steven into the ground.
Boom!
His battle armor disintegrated on impact, and blood sprayed from his mouth.
He was done for.
His heart plummeted. What kind of nightmare had he stumbled into?
The next second, he watched Scarlett wave one hand dismissively.
“You stupid monkey! I don’t come looking for trouble, and you have the nerve to interrupt my dinner? Die!”
And then, right before Steven’s stupefied eyes, the Mountain–Shifter Ape–the creature that had been the most terrifying thing in his world five seconds ago let out a single, horrified shriek. It didn’t even have time to run.
In the blink of an eye, an invisible force crushed it into a cloud of pulverized meat.
All that remained was a small serving of monkey brain, hovering in midair.
Steven swallowed hard,
“Ma’am, we’re both human. My brain wouldn’t taste very good.”
Scarlett’s cold eyes snapped toward him.
“Insignificant ant.
“Die.”
Steven’s eyes nearly bulged out of his head.
But in that very instant, the key hanging around his neck swung free.
Scarlett’s hand froze. Her gaze locked onto the key, and she didn’t blink.
Steven was gasping for air, drenched in cold sweat.
He’d been certain he was about to die, but her power had suddenly frozen.
“Ma’am, I ineant no offense.”
Scarlett glanced at him, and her expression smoothed into something neutral.
She flicked her wrist.

Finished
A monstrous force seized Steven and yanked him toward the villa.
In the time it took to bhink, Steven was standing in the courtyard.
Scarlett had already sat back down and resumed roasting her bird.
Steven was thoroughly confused. He had no idea what this woman was playing at.
But when his gaze drifted to the monkey brain, he swallowed involuntarily.
“What? Want some monkey brain?”
Steven had no words.
Internally, he was screaming. Is this really about whether or not I want some?
A level 6 Mountain–Shifter Ape, obliterated with a casual backhand, reduced to a single serving of monkey brain.
The only person he’d ever seen display power on this scale was his grandfather—someone who could kill a Divine King with a flick of the wrist.
“Ma’am, you’re… not going to kill me?” Steven ventured carefully.
Scarlett looked at him.
In that instant, Steven saw clearly into those eyes–deep and fathomless as a boundless ocean.
She really was breathtakingly beautiful.
Scarlett scoffed. “What? You want me to?”
Steven waved his hands frantically.
“No! Absolutely not!”
Scarlett smiled. “Sit down. The bird’s almost done. The monkey brain needs a little miqre time.”
Looking at that smile, Steven felt something indescribable wash over him
She truly was stunning. That soft, easy smile was like a spring breeze that warmed you to the bone.
But he couldn’t understand why a woman this beautiful and this impossibly powerful was living alone in the depths of the Coromax mountains.
Steven sat down, clutching his chest.
He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
Steven stared at the bird on the spit.
Was this thing actually a chicken?
Since when were chickens the size of a bathtub?
His Eye of Insight activated on its own, and the energy signature inside the meat nearly knocked him over
Was this a high–level beast?
Scarlett let out a cold huff. “For your age, you sure have a wandering eye. Do you make a habit of peeping?”
“I… it wasn’t on purpose…”
Scarlett said flatly, “If it had been on purpose, I’d be roasting your brain right in front of you.”
Steven’s heart nearly stopped. She’d caught him with a single glance.
Terrifying.
Whatever he thought he was hiding, to someone at her level, it was a joke.
Scarlett went back to cooking.
She cranked up the heat.
A mouthwatering aroma filled the air.
Steven sat there, stiff and nervous, too afraid to say a word.
He kept perfectly still.
He had no idea what she wanted from him.
Finished
And his comms were dead. The others must be worried sick.
“Um, could I possibly
“No.”
He hadn’t even finished the sentence.
Scarlett finished cooking quickly.
She produced a plate.
She used a small knife to slice off a razor–thin piece of meat from the roasted bird and set it in front of Steven.
“Eat.”
Steven accepted the plate. He stared at the tissue–thin slice of meat.
Then, he watched Scarlett tear off an entire leg and start gnawing on it.
Is she… maybe a little stingy?
“Eat! Why are you staring at me? Am I tastier than this bird?”
Steven snatched the slice with two fingers and shoved it into his mouth.
The moment the meat hit his stomach, his eyes went wide.
